| ![]() My lil'Woody weighs 4 lbs. And I give him a short shaved cut, makes him look super small. He is strong. But alot of people have told me 'he's too little'. and 'i wouldn't want a dog that small' Sometimes I wished he was bigger, but I love him just the way he is. People say stupid things, they aren't trying to insult you I think, maybe just an ignorant attempt to strike up a conversation and look at your cute dog. And now we have Mia, she is 4 months and 2.5 lbs. Some kids asked me if she was a bunny. LOL, no shes a Pomeranian. |

| ![]() ![]() It's like owning a small dog is some sort of status symbol and the smaller, the better. Why does anyone really care how much their dogs weigh? If they got over 3 lbs would you just get rid of them? And it is strange because I've only seen small breed dog owners discussing their dog's weight. Can you imagine if large breed dog owners discussed weight like that? "My german shepherd is 80 lbs." "Well mine is only 75!" ![]() People don't believe that my two 10 lbers are yorkies anyway. So I've just given up all together. ![]()

| ![]() [QUOTE=kdhawks;3237391]Ugh - I can't stand that! My little guy fits right into the standard (he's 5.5 pounds), and to me, he is so small! I get so mad when someone makes a comment like, "I have a Yorkie too, but mine is a teacup." ![]() I hear that also, they do not even see my dogs and they are already telling me he is 2lbs and so cute. LOL ![]() Last edited by blondschilli; 08-13-2010 at 09:48 PM. |

I've met a lot of big dog owners who think bigger is better.

| ![]() When people see Piper they say ask all the teacup questions. She is tiny...but she is 4#. I always just respond...she fits in the yorkie standard of 4-7# and tell them why people use the teacup term. I am very nice about it..but they dont usually have much more to say ![]() |

| ![]() I think a lot of people exaggerate how small their dogs are just to try to impress people. If the truth be known, probably not many of these people actually have dogs that small, and if you weighed them, they would probably weigh a lot more.

| ![]() I don't think you're being over-sensitive at all. You could add on to the "I'm sorry" and say "Oh, I'm sorry... sorry about the vet bills you will most likely encounter!" because that's something that many people who seek out a "tiny/teacup/purse" dog don't have any clue about. My Vet has rescued several itty bitty dogs from mills/pet stores and the health issues are insane! I just got my Yorkie, and she's a hearty 11.8 lbs! Lol, and then my other dogs are 105 & 80 lbs. I personally like bigger framed dogs of all the breeds that I'm interested in. My one dog who's 105 lbs sat in the shelter for over three months because he was "too big!" people didn't trust him with their kids and felt he would be a nusance in their home! He is the most amazing dog on this earth (in Mommy's eyes of course ![]() A very close relative has a 3 lb pom, and bought her for her size... and while it's a cute dog I don't envy her one bit. It's such an ignorant mentality to shop for that, and any time this dog get's sick it's life threatening. This dog will never be allowed to be a dog because she's treated like a human premie baby. I feel bad for the dogs that are like that, because at the end of the day they are still dogs and deserve the chance to be just that. I don't think dogs were ever meant to be bred down for such small sizes, it's just not healthy. |

| ![]() Sometimes it amazes me the things people will say to me about my dog. So far this week I was asked if she was a Chihuahua (she has a short summer hair cut but no way does she look like a Chihuahua. Last night we went to Brusters for ice cream and of course I heard the comment about some Yorkie named Lilly and how she was so much smaller, I responded back that I gave Sophie Kate steriods when she was a puppy so she would be bigger (I didn't). The person said to me "GREAT idea". I swear sometimes I just shake my head and walk away.

| ![]() We used to get that a TON with our Nadia where people would say oh my yorkie is a teacup and only 3 lbs blah blah blah...Nadia is 4 1/2 to 5 although she a little fluffy. LOL Then I meet their "3" lb dog and it is WAY bigger like 6-7 lbs! Crazy! I don't understand why it matters how large or small your yorkie is? It matters that they are healthy!! Little...big..who cares! Health and temperment should be the biggest concerns! Now we have Keegan and he is 2 1/2 and I sooo hope he gets bigger. He is 10 months and very active, healthy and outgoing....but to be that outgoing is really scary for me when he is only 2 1/2 lbs!!! Everyone wants to hold him, but I won't allow it because he is wanting to go go go.
