"Oh I have one too... But he's 3 pounds" So I have encountered this several times... I was leaving PetsMart today with both my furbabies... I was almost to my car and heard a lady say "Oh, I have one too! BUT he's three pounds..." like it makes her a better person because she owns a tiny. (Keep in mind, I was walking Khloe who is barely 3lbs). I have also heard this several other times before I had Khloe where people state that they have a yorkie, but it is far smaller. Do people honestly think that having a smaller dog somehow makes them superior? I just don't understand why it is necessary to share your dog's weight unless someone asks. I could not imagine someone talking about their skin kids and say "Oh I have an 8-year-old, but he's 30 pounds :)" Is this odd, or am I just being an oversensitive momma? |
This has happened to me also - Bridget is all of 6.5lbs. I would love to have a smart remark - but can never think of one fast enough. |
I don't get the fascination with super tiny dogs. It's almost like it's a contest to see who wins. Granted, I can't carry 10 lb Rhett around in a little bag. But then I didn't get him to be a fashion accessory. |
Just say, "Oh, that's too bad". They will be so stunned they won't know what to say before you're out of there. |

I've gotten that too, and my dogs are small. 5 pounds, 6 pounds, and 3 pounds. I think people are just ignorant and don't mean it as a put down. I think next time you should just respond - "oh, I'm sorry", walk away and they will be left wondering what the heck that meant. :p |

Ugh - I can't stand that! My little guy fits right into the standard (he's 5.5 pounds), and to me, he is so small! I get so mad when someone makes a comment like, "I have a Yorkie too, but mine is a teacup." :( |
When i was at the vet there was a woman with a teeny tiny Yorkie puppy.I was talking to her and she seemed nice. then it came time for Gatsby to be weighed he now weighs 6 1/2 pounds I was thrilled because he has a hard time gaining weight and that is what the vet wants him to be 6 1/2 pounds she looks down at the tiny puppy in her hands and says "don't you ever get that big, momma wants to love you forever". was she implying that if her puppy got to 6 pounds she would not love it any more? I actually was very upset by this and when i mentioned it to the vet she promised to speak with the woman. |
