| Rat in the house This morning about 4:30 am went to the kitchen to make some coffee, followed by my entourage turned on the lamp in the living rm which my kitchen is separated by a bar/counter. walked back to get me a cup of coffee, Tilly of whom I thought was getting pissed at sami (too early to play) and she was sounding pretty vicious was really killing a rat! all three of them ted, & sami was actually getting in tilly's way I could not believe that I had a rat in my house! I live in the mountains and had been told there are tree rats but dumb me they live in trees? never thought they could get in my home! So I will have to call a pest control to have my home evaluated if i have a problem, I have never seen any rat poo or any evidence of sharing my home with a rat? But Tilly is my hero or maybe I already have Rat control |

| Grab all your babies and RUN!!!!! I would be mortified!! Good luck ... I would be very careful what an exterminator put down to kill the rats! I don't know exactly how that works but it would seem if they dropped dead where your babies might get them would it harm your babies?? I think the way you do ... if they are tree rats, why don't they stay up there??

| That would freak me right out, I am petrified of rats and mice. I love snakes spiders etcc but get one of those varmits and I run like a screaming child. Rats are smart though they will send 1 or 2 in and if they do not come back they will move on for it is not safe, mice will come in by the hoards and are not that smart. I would rather get rid of rats then mice. We put poison in our basement every fall and spring,we do not go in the basement (dirt floor and the old limerock foundation). We had a mouse a couple of weeks ago they(dogs) tried to get him but never got him ,ended up trapping him in the middle of the night. But found a dead rat in our pond that we drained(was some water left in it he must of went for a drink and ended up drowning). We live in big farm country and the rats and mice are moving now looking for a warm place to stay for the winter. They have big live traps for them, and big snap traps for them.I would be careful of what the exterminator would use to get rid of them, Good luck getting rid of those nasty things, they are probably just moving as winter is coming and they are looking for a nice warm home. |

I think the way you do ... if they are tree rats, why don't they stay up there?? haha I know Im glad Im not the only one that thought this where I use to live (in the almond) orchard there were Nordic rats? they were as big as cats! and my pest control company knew I had dogs and had used these cans with little holes in them with a lock on top, and filled it with some kind of poison that would make them get thirtsy and when they drank it would kill them! your right I am afraid what they would use? I am going to ask when I call them and explain that I have very curious babies and what type or what do they use and where will they put it? maybe it would just be safer not to even have that kind of service? 011011 advice seems to make sense in regards to them sending in few and seeing how many return? maybe this is the only one? so maybe before I jump the gun I will keep my eyes wide open for any evidence like poo, although I just checked my all my cabinets and drawers and nothing? where else would they hide or how did it get in? I have a doggy door maybe there?

Rats are gnawers....they could climb up anywhere...under the awning to the roof...etc....gnaw their way in...thank god you have a "posse" there to keep you safe! My sister rented an apartment in some "hip" and upcoming neighborhood near her university here in Chicago. It was beautiful, with french doors, moulded ceilings...fireplace. Well...she woke up one night to see a Rat sitting on her chest! She called me hysterical and could not sleep the whole night. Needless to say....that lease didn't last long...hahaha.. Francie

| Sitting on her chest!?!?!? OMG ... I would've started packing right then .... no .... I would've run screaming from that apartment & sent for my stuff!!! My son's Siamese Cat [TC] brought a little one in our house [about 30 years ago]. When Christopher & I saw it and jumped screaming in the middle of the dining room table, scared TC, he dropped it and it took his Dad hours to catch it!!! I wanted to sell the house & move ... we didn't, but I never, ever forgot it!!

| Oh my God. That is my worst nightmare. We live behind a farm that sells fire wood and across the street from a wildlife preserve with a LOT of woods. When my daughter was 4 she was playing in her doll house in the back yard and came and brought me the "dead Hamster" she found. I totally freaked out and called the board of health disinfected my daughter and the doll house. I would die if I found one in my house. Mac & Mellie haven't seen a rat yet. But they chase our resident chip monks, Chip, Dale, and chocolate all around the pool.

| Ohhhh myyyyy goshhhhh! I would totally freak! I think rats are about the ugliest, creepiest things and can't imagine having one in my house! Once when I opened my dryer to get out my clothes, there was a mouse in there! I got the everlov'n creeps and dreamed about mice and rats for a few days. I also got the creeps everytime I opened my dreyer and took my clothes out very carefully, one piece at a time! |

| I hate those things but you know, we are all subject to getting some type of pest. Here in Fl it is roaches, yuk. I have a pest control company on contract but I still have one or two, the girls will bark and bark, so I know something has either died or is barely alive crawling around. And, talk about rats, my daughter had them in an older house here and actaully sold it because one came into her house. She moved to a well regarded neighborhood and guess what, she has them there as well. Why? She bought a house with about 15 fruit trees in the back and they come after the fruit and chew their way into her attic. As good as her oranges are, I'd chop every last one down. Or, maybe I should send Chloe and Lacey over to take care of the problem. Seriously, I also suggest being careful with poisons. I will take a few roaches rather than subject my two to getting poisoned. Chloe got a squirrel one day, scared me to death but the vet said she was ok because she had her shots. |
