I'm sorry for your heartbreak. you have to do what feels right inside. I understand that giving $200 to an individual or $200 to a rescue are 2 different things. IMO they should be greatful to just find a good home for her.

Good luck on your search.

I'm guilty of wearing my heart on my sleeve, and do tend to take things personally. Thank you.

I got my yorkie for free, she came from a friend of a friend who had hurt herself and couldn't keep her. I had every intention of placing her as my breed has always been Italian Greyhounds.

Within a week of getting her, at nine months old, I had Lizzy at the vet having baby teeth removed and that alone cost me more than $200. I hadn't even decided to keep her at that point. Even if it were liver shunt surgery instead of baby teeth, Lizzy is worth every dime I have or could have spent on her. I got lucky and I am blessed to have her, I realize that.

Sometimes things are just meant to be, so maybe you weren't meant for this girl. I'm convinced Lizzy was meant to be with me. I needed a nine month old puppy who wasn't housetrained, would chew the wood around the window by my front door and the corner of my coffee table, and bark at any little noise. Oh, and I forgot to add, terrorize my other dogs!
I actually regret even posting this, as I did it last night (12ish) out of hurt and dissappointment. It didn't even get approved by mods until around 11 am today. How was I supposed to know it was a shady situation before she gave me real indicators (such as not calling me like she said she would and re-posting the ad)? I was willing to pay her before that happened and like I said, only if the dogs vet records were availiable and such. I was being precautious. That's exactly why it fell through.

I was only posting here to share my hurt, looking for support. I thought this would be the right place, but instead I get alot of slack because of how I am handling it... I'm not the bad guy here. I don't feel that I deserve to be grilled about everything.

I'm glad someone understands. $200 to an individual who put forth their money to have this dog vetted and spayed would not be a problem. It's giving that $200 to a third party that doesn't sit right with me.

I will keep looking... I have faith that I will know when the time and dog is right.

I think sometimes when people write we can come across harsher than we mean to be. This site is full of wonderful, caring people that truly want the best interest of our furbabies. I know that all of us at Yorkie Talk can be very supportive what ever the situation may be. Please don't feel that you can't turn to the site for support because I promise you that it is there. This situation is a difficult one and you should not let it stop you from finding your perfect baby. Yorkies can be expensive as you know and you must be careful when you decide to purchase one. There are crooked people in our world. I wish you the best of luck in finding your new baby in the near future.

How do you know that the money isn't going to the real "owner"? Maybe that's why she changed her mind, perhaps the real owner wasn't willing to sell for 50 or 75$. Personally 200$ seems very reasonable to me, Just my opinion.

I do agree though if it doesn't feel right don't do it.

Well now the girl has contacted me and said she was sorry, that her mother had re-posted the dog because she didn't know that she had found a home for her. I still have my doubts, but if she's able to show me some vet work or at least a rabies tag for this specific dog, then I'm going to go get the poor little thing. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here. She say's we are still on for the original deal of $75 and she is going to drive an hour to meet me, out of my 4 hours so that cuts down on my trip.

It seems to me that a BIG part of this dilemma is that she lives "out in the sticks" as she said, and I do believe that they have a different way of doing things and handling things. I'm definately not making excuses for her, but I think that they may look at animals more as just a dog or whatever, no emotion behind it, whereas alot of us love out pets more then anything. I think that really does make a difference in how someone would handle a re-homing situation.

I do plan on looking around at missing ads for yorkies though, but if she can show me the AKC paperwork then I don't think it's likely that she's stolen.

I dout she would be stolen if theres papers invovled as well as vet papers too. I don't know what you mean by the other part of your post.

I just mean that everyone is different and there are many different mentalities as to how people feel about their pets. For me, if I ever had to re-home something I would do an intense screening process and be very picky about who my pet was going to. Aside from doing whatever I could to not re-home them to begin with. It just seems that these people don't care much, there's a ton of dogs there and they live out in the country. More or less a farm situation, and it doesn't seem they are attached to this dog, or any of the dogs she spoke of, so I feel that they have a very different perspective and that pets don't mean nearly as much to them as they do to me( for example. )

Which would explain why they are doing things this way.
