| Hawks in area - NOW THERE ARE TWO!!! At least two. one is very big, seen in the pic on the tree. And I just came home to visit my babies for lunch and low and behold this smaller but equally upsetting hawk is sitting on the lower deck of my neighbor's house - two doors down. he then flew into OUR TREE. I'm freaking out and I wish I had a southern friend here to help me with this. Anyone from the South or Texas wanna come visit and bring something to "deter" Mr. Hawk and his brother from coming around?????

| Roxyluv - I tried that and I haven't seen anything but people's opinions. I was thinking of contacting the audobon people and if not then the state wildlife people.

| I saw the same kind of hawk sitting on my van one day. What a surprise! He took off at nearly the same time I saw him. Needless to say, Lizzy hasn't been going out alone, but I only saw the hawk the one time. I'm in the south, but don't have a clue as to what you can do to deter them.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I read that shiney objects help repel hawks & they don't like bright colors. So I have placed shiney objects around the yard & bright colored windsocks too. We have hawks flying around at times. One suggestion for shiney objects is to glue together old cds or software cds/dvds together shiney side out. Drill hole & connect disks with fishing line. Hang & let them flash in the wind. You can string together as many as you want. So far we haven't had any hawks coming down close to the house. There probably isn't any one sure way of preventing them, but these were easy for me to do. So far successful. Do a YT search for hawks as there are several threads here talking about them & eagles.

| Do you have any other dogs besides yorkies. I have several larger rescues and their fenced area in all around the yorkies fence. We have hawks but they arent brave enough to dive into the yorkie yard with all the big ones around. At least they arent smart enough to figure out that the big ones cant come into the yorkie fence.

| Cathy, we had quite a few hawks in our area and we did ask around and got a couple suggestions. 1) hang a mirror type windchime. 2) use a garden mirror globe in the center of your yard 3) Those little scarecrow people. The mirror reflection usually will deter them, and if all else fails get one of those airhorns and blow it off when the dogs go outside. | Oh how scary.Theres no one you can call like a pest control to take care of them?Any hunters in the neighborhood? Can you call the animal service officers and lie and say one tried to attack you while you were outside watering? That might be a good way to get them out of there. |

| Raptors are a protected species, so hunting is a no no. |

| I have been seeing a "pair" of hawks sitting in the neighbors' trees even before the trees got their leaves this year. We normally aren't at our home for long but I have been here since the 28th of February. Today I saw a third one and the pair! Trust me, Toto is never in the yard more than 10 minutes and is always, always accompanied by me! If one ever, ever swoopes down after her, the blasted thing is dead ... I don't care how "protected" they are. I'm sorry if there are "advocates" for these awful creatures or not but there is absolutely nothing so important to me as my sweet baby girl!!
