Dying/Enhancing the show Yorkie

I have a question, are all show dogs that easy to groom? Not that the grooming part was easy but how the dog just let this man do all that. I was wondering if that dog was drugged?
I never knew all that went into doing a topknot. I'm lucky if I can get them to stay put long enough to put a bow in.

Being groomed is an everyday fact of life for a show dog. As this dog demonstrated...many get used to it and tolerate the grooming procedure's quite well. However, what these video's show is a dog being groomed for show. This is not your normal everyday grooming routine. This dog is not spray painted everyday of it's life...only before a show.

I didn't watch the videos LOL...but Radar lays his head on his roll pillow while I do his top knot and doesn't move for the most part. He loves the attention he gets and gets to lay down his favorite part of grooming for show LOL...I'm always having to tap him to wake up while standing when I'm wrapping him because he falls asleep and I have to tap him before he falls over LOL...grooming for show I think is always a great calming affect on me and my dog. I love grooming for show and for pleasure.

Ridiculously beautiful Yorkie! Wow! I wish I could get a top knot in my boys. I tried to grow out Fletcher's coat one time but whenever he peed it would get on his hair and he would mat and stink. Although in my eyes, he's gorgeous, he is not in any way even remotely close to a show dog, at almost 13lbs, but his coat is beautiful, shiny and silky so he could have a long coat. How do you keep them from smelling like pee though?

I won't comment on the dying/enhancing since I don't show. But I'm blown away by how still that girl stood during the process. Rhett is good during his grooming till it comes to drying him off. Scarlett on the other hand, howls like I'm killing her during her bath. I'm hoping she'll calm down since this is going to be a weekly process.

Joey's breeder said that she tries to pick a dog that enjoys the grooming process; some dogs really seem to love this one on one time they have with their owners. I think they also try to choose dogs that have that attitude and know they are beautiful, so that they can strut their stuff in the ring.

Grooming with Radar is relaxing for both me and Radar! He loves his one on one time with mommy!! He'd be happy no matter where we were...grooming table, show ring, running on the beach, running in the backyard or just laying in my chair! I love when people stop at my set up and watch me do his top knot...they are ooohhhhhhing and awwwwwwwwing on how still he is laying on his roll pillow with his eyes closed LOL...he's a funny little boy!

Joey's breeder sent home a little bone shaped pillow with him and told me to only use it only for grooming, not as a toy. When I get the pillow out, he knows to lay his head on it while I do his topknot. He's had to learn to be very patient with me because I'm all thumbs, but the little pillow works great, and he lies their peacefully while I struggle. Now combing his mustache is another thing, he doesn't care for that.

Okay how long dose all this take? the show grooming i mean, because it seems to me like it must take hours.

From my understanding, the wraps are the most time consuming, but experienced breeders say that they can put the wraps in minutes. I would guess that they can do the wraps before I can do a good topknot.

Radar doesn't like his mustache being combed either LOL...but he loves his momma so much he deals LOL

Wraps are probably THE most time consuming part....I think if I'm not in a major hurry it takes me about 20 minutes after his bath and oiling and blow drying so all in all it takes me about an hour to bathe, oil, dry and wrap for during the week. He's my pet and has free run of the house, access anytime to the backyard via doggie door and sleeps with me at night. The wraps never bother him so I guess he's one spoiled show dog LOL

It is cute to see him laying his head on his pillow with his eyes closed Yes, Radar is a show dog Patience and repeatativeness is the key. Some don't ever lay still but Radar is such a momma's boy LOL....
I've actually been very lucky to have all my show dogs lay on the pillow nice and quiet
