Yorkie Yakker | My prinses sleeps ALOT!! Good day everyone! Im not sure if this is a problem or not, but I need some advice. My lil prinses is almost 11 months old. She weighs 3.2lbs. So she is pretty small. She arrived at my place about 2 weeks ago now, from a previous owner (a breeder with 10 yorkies). She got alot of love at that breeder too and was kind of the 'baby' in the house. Well my concern is that my baby sleeps basiclly ALL DAY. Im worried about her because Im reading all about yorkies that is very energetic and plays around all day, my baby sleeps all day. She has a couple of toys but only shows interest in them when I do. She will play with me with loads of effort (lazy), and she will only walk around when I do, and where I do. The problem is that I had an operation and its difficult and painfull to walk alot. What can I do? I try to give her alot of attention but she just loves to sleep? I've had her at the vet twice, they say she is fine and weighs enough and that there is no concern. But some days she eats alot some days nothing!!! Is there a problem? Do I need to stress and what can I do? O I live in Oman which is about 40 degrees celsius daily. (she has a very short haircut now) |

| I'm not sure what to tell you. If the vet says she's OK, then she probably is. I have multiple dogs and 2 Yorkies. They have very intensive periods of play (and fetch!), then long naps. Then more play (and naps) all day up until bedtime, when they go to bed for a l-o-n-g nap You said you just got her. Maybe her former owner was more active at night than during the day, so she thinks "day" is "night"? Hope you feel better soon ... |

This makes me feel much better Maybe she is just a lazy dog? She is very skinny, and still loves her walks. Guess I just need to get better again, and start giving her loads of walks? | |

| Sleepy head My oldest baby, Ally, is the same weight and 1.5 years old. From what I can see, I think they conform to what their owners are doing. I mean, if the prior owner didn't do alot, then the baby didn't either. Mine loves to watch out the windows and doors for squirrels. The most exciting part of her day is for me to let her outside so she can chase one across the fence line! Now that I have a new little one (Tia, which at almost 6 months, is now bigger than Ally), Ally plays a little more. My neighbor's yorkie, who just turned one, sleeps alot, but my neighbor is retired and just went thru cancer treatments and slept alot. I don't think it's too much to worry about, as long as they get their exercise. Mine loves to take a walk too, but the heat in Florida right now is just too extreme to even let my babies outside to chase critters, much less take a short walk...so we play ball alot. |

You might ask the puppy's breeder about her eating habits. I had a 15 yr old IG whom I took to the vet for the same thing, the eating part, all her routine blood work was normal. I finally took her to an internist, after she lost a pound, and in an 12 lb IG, she looked very thin. After more extensive blood work, and an endoscopy, she was diagnosed with IBD. She eats everyday now and has regained the pound.

| Brandi's favorite hobby is sleeping. She usually gets energetic when I get home from walk and we go for our evening walk and early in the mornings. Interestinlgly she only gets really energetic around mealtime . She also follows me around but its more begrudgling like "would you please stop walking around the house so I can take my nap kind of walk". It's a very slow paced walk. But no matter where I am in the house or how tired she is, she just has to be with me. |

Yorkie Yakker | I just Love this website!!! I took my prinses out for a walk tonight! (It was really hard on my body, but she deserved it). I havent seen her run like this before! She was so cute, and so happy, I couldnt believe it! My dear friend needed to play with her as I cannot run with her. But she ran EVERYWHERE! I do need to be VERY carefull with her though, she is really small and thin (sorry not too skinny) and it is usually really hot here (normal temp 115 degrees Farenheit) I know my prinses is REALLY small, but she is not a so called "teacup", she was the only baby in the litter, her mom only had 1 baby, and she was really spoiled by her mom as she was drinking her milk up to 3 months old! But many thanks for that advice, I still do think it is a good idea to check her up, although I think prinses is just picky |

| After taking Mango on a short walk, he sleeps, I don't think there's anything wrong if the vet says she's ok. |

| She might still be a little sad about changing homes, and her personality might just need a little more time to blossom. Then again, as others have said, there are just some really lazy Yorkies. I have two that sleep ALL day...Maddie and Jade. They only wake up when there's food or belly rubs involved lol

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Yep Poppy is always snoozing! I'd say she has about 5 naps a day lol they are so small even running around the living room can tire them out when they are just young. If your vet says she is healthy I wouldnt worry about it. With the toys.. Poppy wouldnt touch her toys when I first brought her home unless I picked them up, now she plays with them all the time by herself. I am always being woken in the night by the sound of her shaking and playing with her rattle toy lol.
