| Hello You must be nerves. I know I would be. If you have never done the cords before and have no one there with you that has done it before I would let Mommy dog do it. If you have any trouble please call your vet. Good Luck and I will be keeping you and Mommy and Babies all in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |

| When our boxer had puppies we had to help her with it some. The vet told us to use regular sewing thread and sterlized sissors. tie the string about an inch away the belly and then cut the cord below the knot. and the cord should still be tied off. On the amount of puppies i dont know i am a newbee but hope i helped on the cord part! |

| The litter size can very greatly. I have seen as few as 1 and as many as 6. Have you thought about taking her to the vet to have an ultra sound done to know what your going to be dealing with and to make sure she is capable of delivering? If this is your first litter that is something I would seriously consider. I am sure some of the experienced breeders will see this more towards morning and they can give you more advice. Best wishes to you....

| Litter size can vary greatly . It is not only based on the size of the dam . My mentor have some big girls having only 1 or two , on the other hand , smaller one have 4 - 5 or 6 pups . |

| I would suggest going online and searching for helpful info. There is a TON of it out there with pictures and everything. Go to "Google" and type in "birthing puppies" or "delivering puppies" or something like that. I don't help with the cords; I let Mamma do it. However, you should know how to do it incase you have to jump in and help. Hopefully she will be a natural and will be able to do everything herself. Everything may go right, but a ton of things can go wrong. I'd spend every second right now on the computer reading and learning. Please keep us informed and I hope everything goes naturally and smoothly. Again, please get online....you will find it very helpful and to have pictures of what to expect is awsome. |

| I have to tell you that it is SOOOOOO IMPORTANT to stay calm. If you get to excited or nervous or stressed around her, she will pick up on it and it could cause her to kill her pups. Even if there is a cuase to panic, don't do it around her. Keep your voice calm, the room warm, and have a vet on hand knowing this is your/her first litter. If a pup gets stuck in the birth canal, DO NOT PULL IT OUT....work with her contractions and only help pull when she pushes. |

| Calm down. If you are nervous, your girl will be nervous too. I would let the mama do the cords (if she will). Dogs have been having pups on their own since way before any of us were here. With Trixie, we did them because she wouldn't. She had her first two literally within 2 minutes of each other. She was so busy getting the second one out, she forgot about the first one. We used dental floss to tie it, one inch from the pup, and child's scissors to cut (on the puppy side). You should notice a definate difference when she is in stage 1 labor and will be well aware that they are coming. I am sure everything will go fine. Post if you have any questions or problems...there always seems to be plenty of Yorkie lovers around to help. Have supplies to cut the cords ready and out just in case (scissors, thread/floss, um...snot sucker?) The last thing you want to do is discover you need them and have to try to find them in a rush. |

| What surprises me is that you ask these questions at the 12th hour, youre not prepared properly for the whelping!! You had two months to research and collect the information and needed whelping kit yet you still search for answers to some of the most basic questions. I would suggest you have a vet on call 24-7 to assist you in the whelping Your lack of knowledge can indeed indanger the life of your little gal and her off spring!!! I suggest you read this http://www.debbiejensen.com/whelping_day_photos.html and google "pregnant bitch" read all you can and search for someone to help you! Get your vets personal cell or home number so you can call anytime or locate an emergency vet near you and keep that name taped to the phone!! Even we seasoned breeders hope for the best in every whelping but PREPARE for the worst!

| I am going to agree with Kimberly here, I cannot understand why you are waiting until the last minute to holler for help. I would like to be nice, but when I see posts like this it makes me angry at the thoughtlessness. |
