| ![]() I've heard that if they are neutered early (like 6 months or so), they usually don't lift...is that it? Levi was fixed pretty early.

| ![]() They are times when my boys pee and you can't even tell the way they are standing but they peed. He may of went on the carpet right in front of you and you didn't notice. They are quick ![]()

| ![]() Maximo started lifting his leg at a very early age. I'm not an expert, but I think lifting is individual to each dog -- some start early, some late, and some never. Training has more to do with stopping it than neutering. (ETA: if it starts early) I believe Max lifted his leg because his piddle pad was against the fence of his xpen. Now that his piddle pad is free-standing on a rubber mat (no fence or wall nearby), Max squats with one foot raised slightly in the air. Outdoors, he does the half squat and the full leg lift, which sometimes is so high that he nearly tips himself over like DvlshAngel's Kaji. ![]() Last edited by Maximo; 07-05-2010 at 10:10 AM. |

| ![]() To truly make it worthy of such an honor, I would have to add that Teddy squats, knees together, and wiggles his butt and tail when he pees. It is the cutest! Then he does the kicking dance. We need a thread about pups who kick after pottys. To the OP: Hope Mango has peed for you by now. I think Max took about 10 hours when I brought him home. |

| ![]() Update: Mango peed this morning on the floor, my fault! I did not have a pee pad in the kitchen. Then I just washed his feet and tummy off. After, he ate about a half cup of food, and drank a lot of water, took him outside about 20 minutes after, didn't go. Then I took him outside |

| ![]() He's been outside several times today, didn't go again yet, but has eaten a few more bites. I think he understands that outside is to play in the grass and run, but not so sure he understands that he can use the bathroom outside too. Hmm. But I'm teaching him a trick ![]() I was carrying a bag of treats in my hands to put away, and he starts jumping on his hind legs...and he'd balance there. So I'd say, "Up!" And he would do it, (not knowing thats the word for it), so I gave him a small treat. (I always break small treats even smaller, don't want him eating too much ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() Bear, the big dog, usually lifts. But sometimes he'll just stand, stretch ever so slightly and pee while standing straight up. If it's dark or you're not watching, you'd never know. You said Mango stands and then starts walking. Maybe he is doing a tiny little pee and you just aren't noticing? Baxter literally finds his shrub, jumps to try to get as high as he can before he lands and lifts. He also tries to mark over Bear. Considering Baxter weighs 10lbs and Bear weighs 80lbs, meaning big height difference, this can get very weird. Bear will be lifting on a bush and while going, Baxter will go to the opposite side, leap, land and go at the same time. Sometimes this means that instead of being the 'bigger man' and leaving his mark on top of Bear's he just gets peed on by Bear.... dummy....

That made me laugh! Mango would do that too...our pug, Susie, is 30 pounds. Mango is 7 pounds. Susie will go up to the water bowl and drink water...but thats not it, MANGO starts RUNNING for Susie and tries to nip her, not mean, playfully, and he didn't even touch his mouth to Susie, I think Mango is testing to see how Susie will react......and Susie runs away!!!! SO FUNNY! Susie is a big scare-dy cat. Mango is a 4th of Susie's size! I think Mango is a teaser, she likes to tease me and my family a lot it seems. Makes me giggle. Mango wouldn't hurt a fly...well maybe a fly, but nothing else ![]() | |

He just started asking to be picked up and I just pared the words with it, for him it's a command in Spanish, it's much shorter. Eventually, I asked and he responded because he learned what the words meant. Just keep doing what you're doing and Mango will learn all kinds of things.
