YT Addict | give me that! Like all yorkies Axel is no different but he gets something that he is not supposed to have he runs and we pratically have to corner him to get him and then he still won't let go! he has even bitten me when he had something little in his mouth. I do puppy proof my home, however there is always something that he will find! How do you all get them to stop and give it up? I have tried trading it with one of his toys, yeah right! he didn't go for that. This morning I was making the bed in the spare room and he got my daughter's 30 year old cholly doll (if anyone might know what this is) anyway it took me 20 min to get it from him! HELP! this is driving me crazy. |

| Sounds like my Bubba. Bubba steals anything he can get his little mouth around-pens, papers, tv remotes, things Sissy had, my socks and underwear (clean or dirty makes no difference), shoes and will come by me to show me what he has, then runs away but will not give it up. It's game on when he gets something. Usually he will let me have it if I say bring it and trade it for worthy treat. My husband has more trouble getting things from him than I do but he has figured out that making the rasberry sound makes Bubba drop it.

| Kobe does this too, and will walk by you to "show" you what he has because he wants us to chase him around the house to get it. It's a game, and whats the best way to get you to play when you dont want it... grab something he shouldn't and take off. He's gone behind the couch, under it. The only way he drops it is if he has no escape route then he drops and rolls over like... "don't be mad momma I just wanted to play". He really only listens to me or hubby when we get serious with him but the kids have NO chance!!!

| Sometimes you gotta dig deep to get whatever they have in their mouth I think Ruby likes to get caught now, whenever she has something she shouldn't, she runs right into her crate!! Makes it pretty easy for mommy

| Have you tried exchanging it for a treat? You really don't want to give chase and make it into a game. My boy used to do that, now he knows when I am serious and will stop when I say, although he is very toy possessive and nearly bit me the other day by accident.

| Sophie likes this game, too. Her weak spot is CHEESE! She can't resist a bit of cheese so when she has something under the couch we pull out the cheese and she drops whatever contraban she has.

YT Addict | cheese axel loves cheese I will try that, after I posted I was packing for a trip the little stinker got up on the bed into the overnite bottle carrying out a bottle of my pills! so again the chase, he is wearing me out this am...but ill try the exchange for the treat instead of exchange for the toy! just feel like I'm rewarding him and he will be worse! but I have to get him to stop this...we are going to my parents and his stealing things has me concerened! |

| Here's an idea. Try working on the "leave it" or "drop it" when he has something he's not that interested in. You can give something, then trade it for something better. Work on it a little every day, like if you were teaching him to sit or whatever.

| Mine does the same thing! It's a hassel to take her outside to go potty because she picks up lumps of grass, or anything! Even leafs, and she runs around and I can never catch her. The other day she had a mouse head (yuck!) |

| Mine grab clothes (especially underwear) and run under the bed. I end up crawling under the bed to get them back. They also like to chew things up (belts, shoes, remote control, cell phone, digital camera, practically anything they can find). I have to make sure nothing is left in the floor or it's history. | The "drop it" game worked for Ziva, it is one of her favorites now, we keep her in practice. We still get an occasional stolen treasure that she won't give up (a boyscout patch- that she drooled to death comes to mind!) |

I don't think that would be reinforcing the behavior and you really don't want to make chase into a game. Sometimes it's an annoyance when they take something, sometimes it could be life threatening; you definately don't want that to be a game.

| I would work on correcting this. This is how we lost our boy to a choking accident in January. |
