I bet this is a terrible situation. My hubby also wants a big dog but all of these responsibilities would be on me and I am not willing to take that on, you are a better women than me! LOL. I know the feeling though, I would just be nervous because he hasnt grown up with your lil guys and doesnt realize his size. It will take some time for you all to adjust... good luck to you!

I can't give you much advice but sure hope you will find a solution for all of you.
My hubby always had big dogs, GSD and Setter, and first he wasn't impressed when I said I wanted a small dog. But once he saw Merlin he just fell in love and now he just spoils him rotten. Now he thinks it was the perfect choice.
We had someone over the other day and he has a Husky and told us he killed racoons, porcupines, birds and that small dogs don't like his. Boy, was I relieved he didn't bring his dog over!

We have a "Bigger" dog as well in addition to our Yorkie. He weighs about 50lbs I guess. He is a German Sheppard mix. We got him from the shelter and he is the best dog ever! He was first in our home. Rusty (our yorkie) came in years later. Sometimes Stedman gets very excited and starts playing to rough and I just have to say No and he will stop or I will separate them. Usually though it is Rusty beating up on Stedman, climbing all over him, chewing his ears, licking his face, etc etc. Every once in a while Rusty gets stepped on in mid play and he will let out a little yelp but then he is back to attacking Stedman with full force. Stedman is very gently and docile though and pretty much lets Rusty do what he wants to him. He is older though (7) and is pretty much in the lazy stage of his life.

We like to say Rusty is a German Sheppard on the inside and Stedman is a yorkie

Karlee, I got when the owner was pretty desperate to find her a home. After getting her home, it was very apparent she had not been socialized with other dogs at all and was extremely aggressive. My mom and dad fell in love with her and after my mom retired she had became depressed and Karlee brought her out of that. They love each other so much and Karlee needs to be an only dog. We still try to socialize with the others, but it still isn't as good as we would like.
I honestly tried to do what I thought was best for everyone. I felt like they fit so well with these family members and that they filled a need each of them had. I hope that you don't think I'm a bad person or owner. I really love animals and want what is best for them. My husband and I have both agreed that he will be happy with the "sissy" babies and forget about the big dog issue. I do know that I jumped into this way too quickly and I regret that so much. I just want my husband happy just like I am with the yorkie babies.

Nooooo I don't think you are a bad person or owner at all!! I wasn't sure the story behind the rehomes but now I fully understand your reasonings! Sometimes it just doesn't work out. I had to rehome two dogs in my past as well and I know that they were much better off in their new homes, one of which I still hear from almost 3 years later! They still email me and send me pictures and I am welcome to come visit her when Im in the area (4 hours away) You sound alot like me!

Glad to hear your hubby has decided to love what he's got! lol My hubby thought yorkies were such sissy dogs but now he loves them so much and brags about how "sweet" they are to everyone LOL
