Default Houdini is at it again!!!

so i get home and i find one of the panels of her ex-pen with a huuuuuge hole torn in it and she meets me at the door... AGAIN!

i was soooooo pissed b/c i had the zippers at the top, but i didn't realize she could rip a hole through it what good is it if it doesn't keep them inside?!? that's 50 bucks just wasted....

what's even sadder is that now when i leave the house, she won't get to have a whole room to herself, she'll only have a KENNEL to herself. we all know she doesn't like the kennel, but i have no choice at this point. i tried everything i could but she just won't listen....

uuuuuggggghhhhh!!!!!

on a lighter note, i did win a prize in the YT raffle!!! yaaaaayyy!!!

I also gave up and am having to keep my 7 month old in a kennel. I'm sure I had the exact same pen you had (with the zippers at the top) and he chewed right through the side. It took him awhile to do this though. The pen was around fifty dollars. Before that we tried baby gates stacked one on top of another...all different kinds of these...(even one that was mesh) but he jumped right over. We tried to keep him in the bathroom but he made such a mess that had to stop. We gave up and now he is in the kennel everytime we have to leave. No, he does not like it, but at least I know he (and my house) are safe.

I saw those at the feed store this weekend. Not as cute, but I've always wondered if the pupsters can chew through them. Does she climb or does she jump?

sorry she chewed thru the new crate you just bought. i think the only thing that will hold her now is the wire crate or the wire ex-pen with the wire top.

I didn't like keeping my baby penned up at all, so I put a "French Door" on my kitchen. (between kitchen & family room) So now he can stay in the kitchen when I need to go out. When I come in the front door he is always peeking through the glass windows on the french door waiting for me. I don't work so he is very seldom left alone but I just didn't like the idea of crating at all.
I put a pee pad down for him and he has never made a mess on the floor either & he has never chewed anything up. He is 1 year now.

I use the plastic EX Pen for my yorkie. I shaped it as a rectangle. I have her bed, pee pad with tray. Food and Water. Toys. She is perfectly content.

I do want to train her to be in her crate also. Probably should have started that from the day I brought her home. I may have to listen to her cry until she gets used to it.

I have recently bought another EX PEN to use on our deck. So far, we just use it to block the steps when we take her out on the deck to be with us.

I had looked online at the Pens that are fabric with zippers. I figured she may chew it and decided the Plastic Ex Pen would be a better choice.

If looking to buy one of these, buy from Babies R Us, Target, Walmart. Much cheaper by about $20.00+ than buying from a pet store.

Walmart also has a really cute pen that is about $40.00 online. It is taller than the Ex Pen. I have considered having this pen also for when ever we visit my family and we bring both of my dogs with us.

I think your little guy and my Maddie are probably related. She is 5 years old now, but when she was a puppy, she could escape anything...even double high baby gates. There was nothing that could hold her in, except for her crate. She is over that stage, but now I have Libby and Faith, and Libby is able to find her way through the fence, which I have Libby proofed more than once...she even took Faith with her one time. I am always out there with them, but look away for a second and "ping" they are out of site.

I just recently bought something on Ebay that others had recommended. I plan to use it if I am working in the yard so I won't have to be worrying about them sneaking off. I haven't gotten it yet, so I don't know how escape proof it is, but once I get it, I'll let you know. They have these in small, medium, large and X-large. I got the large size. I think it will come in handy in travel also.

Quick question, do you put her in through the top or through one of the sides doors? The reason I am asking is because I only put Brandi in through the top. If i put her in through one of the side doors, she will easily escaped. I learned this when I had a crate for her. She would watch me latch and unlatch the door and figured out how to get out.

With the new mesh expen I bought for her, I only put her in through the zippered top because she can't reach it and because the sides are mesh she cannot climb up to it to chew a hole in it. My Brandi was escaped artist too until I noticed she paid careful attention to how I was putting her in. Also, try covering the hole up and face it in a different direction while only putting her in through the top....problem solved well at least for Brandi it was.

Here is the expen Brandi has been unabled to escape only because I put her in through the top. Go figure. If i put her through one of the zippered sides, that is where she will try to chew through.

My best advice is what I do with my little ones. I have 2 of these. I purchased the large size to fit a great dane. They have a door on the side and on one end.

https://www.petedge.com/product/Home.../502/44362.uts

On one end I have a puppy pad for use if I have to be gone to long and there is a huge left over area for a favorite bed and some toys. I also have a water bowl attached to the wall of the crate so it cannot be overturned or stood in. My pets don't mind these crates at all in fact they general sleep in there any time they aren't on my lap by their own choice. There is no way they will get out or destroy anything you don't leave in the crate and they have ample room to move around even with the puppy pad.

I would get either of these sizes.

I completely understand your frustration. I have this same soft crate and it worked great for my last Yorkie but Cooper (7 mths) trys to rip threw the mesh. I went and bought one of the plastic XPENS for $70 (one of the bigger ones and tallest one I could find). He climbs over. I have wasted so much money on trying to confine him. I finally went and bought a wire crate 2 weeks ago and so far it has been great. I didn't want to crate him but that was my last resort. I wish I had started him out in it from day one. I have a very open floor plan in my house and started out letting him have free roam of 3 rooms...that is until he chewed 2 holes in my sheetrock and marked on my curtains. I guess we live and learn..lol.

she's never done it in front of me, but i think she climbed up the wire one and then jumped down.

I definitely wouldn't recommend the one I have. Too many foot holes for tiny climbers. Have you tried recording her? That way you know exactly what you're dealing with. Put her in her pen, obviously not the one with the hole in it, and leave just for a little while to try to catch Houdini on camera. I also wouldn't recommend for you to leave her in a kitchen or bathroom because of her dislike or fear of those surfaces. At least not until you've had time to work with her on that. I was thinking of suggesting an ex-pen with only vertical bars, that is if she's not a jumper.

Who would of thought something so sweet and small could be so destructive?
