| Tail - Docked/Undocked I have a question regarding yorkie tails. I can't find any pictures of yorkies with undocked tails and I am wondering if my Zoey's tail is undocked. It doesn't matter to me one way or another but my first yorkie's tail was about 1 1/2 inches long and Zoey's tail is about is three inches long. She is now 5 months old. I read in the standard that tails should be docked to "medium" length. What is medium? Cherie |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I found this one online. It sounds like yours was docked, just at a longer length. http://dogspired.com/wp-content/uplo...71-150x150.jpg |

| Thanks for the photo. Zoey's tail is a bit shorter than the photo and it curls over her back. It is cute but not short. Cherie |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | full tails on yorkies are pretty long, kinda like maltese or shih tzu tails. so i think whoever docked your girls tail did it wrong. Jackson has a great tail! i love yorkie tails.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | A good breeder learns tricks of the trade through their mentor. From what I've read, and Joey's breeder told me, it should be in proportion to their body, and not some set length. Breeders who always dock at 2 inches are going to get a much different look on a 7-pound dog than a 3-pound dog. I've read that some breeders pull the tail in a downward position, and where it meets a certain point of the body is where they dock. I can't remember what that point is though, but it would be different on different dogs.

| Thanks for the input. This breeder has been at it for at least 25 years with champions so I would assume that she knows what is correct. Still, I think her tail is too long but it looks cute anyway. Cherie |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I like them on the longer side, and I think many breeders do them too short, but I'm no expert.

| You could be correct about some breeders not doing them right. My first girl had a very short tail and it was so sensitive for almost a year and this girl seems not to have any problem with touching the end of her tail. As I read in one book the tail should be docked to a "medium" length. I guess medium could be anything from one inch to three or four inches. I'll watch the tail length at the next dog show. Cherie |

| I also prefer them a bit longer, or even full rather than too short (which I think my Tiki's is)
