Please Read: Decisions We Make at YT
 

Let’s say a woman is speeding 20mph over the speed limit. A policeman pulls her over. The policeman has 3 choices:

-- Give her a ticket
-- Give her a ticketed warning
-- Give a verbal warning, and send her on her way

Tell me, which decision is fair?

Is it black and white? Is the penalty for speeding applied to every person and every situation in the EXACT same way, every time it happens?

No? Buttttt, it’s a rule that is broken…why is it applied differently to different situations? Hmmmm....

Every single thing is different from the other. When we make decisions to close a thread, or delete a post etcetera - it is not personal. It is done or not done for a reason, it’s not random. When a rule is broken or stretched, what happens next can depend upon several circumstances. I'd bet that's how the policeman might make his decision for that ticket too - based upon circumstances other than the mere fact that the rule was broken :rolleyes:.

Admin and the Mods always welcome feedback, suggestions, and questions. However, we need to ask that people keep things in perspective. While we have Rules and Guidelines here at YT, they are applied differently as every situation IS different. We understand that a decision may not always seem “fair” or “appropriate”, and that’s a-okay bc it is not possible to make it perfectly fair and appropriate for 60,000+ unique people.

On that note, please consider the situation before repeatedly PMing the Admin or Mods regarding whether a decision about a thread/post/member is fair or appropriate. This is a large community and we will always make decisions that will not please everyone. <---THAT is a fact and will *always* be part of this community, so please accept this fact.

Fair and appropriate are shades of gray, they are not black and white. :):):)

{Btw, this is not regarding any 1 situation or thread. Rather, it is something that has needed to be said for a while, as there seems to be some confusion about YT's Rules. :)}

I agree..YT has the right to use Discretion with post they delete or keep...Just as Police officers use discretion when giving tickets etc... :)

All I know, is when I was a young little hot body, I always just got a warning...not so much anymore :rolleyes: lol...A true story to make you smile:D...However, you guys, here at YT, are amazing, well balanced, and it's a pleasure to be a part of this community:)...

Cops take on tickets with our own spin

--Take out the ticket book to scare her and ask stupid questions about where she's going in such a hurry - then ask if she knows the correct speed limit (aways answer 10 miles LESS than the posted speed)

THEN : Wait patiently while you sweat as he runs your information and walks slowly back to your car (be polite but ready to cry at a moments notice)

--Pretend to start writing said ticket while looking at her registration and license

--Step back with a stern face and tell her if you see her again going too fast he'll take her to jail

You: Thank cop profusly and drive off exactly the speed limit and keep a good eye out for that cop in the future expecially if it's on a route you travel all the time,

If all else fails - tell the cop you were blow drying your hair out the open window - worked for me !

I know everyone gets tired of hearing, "way back when ... ", but here goes. In the beginning [YT's beginning] when there were just a handful of us "old timers" and we were just talking amongst ourselves and the most drama we read, well, there wasn't any drama. Then YT began to grow [a lot of it caused by our invitations and spreading the word] and it grew, grew and grew.

Admin always kept the peace, made the rules with input and opinions from members and just generally made this a fun, educational and all around great place to be. With so many new people, personalities, etc. it grew so large that Admin needed good people to help him keep the peace and maintain it's reputation as the best Yorkie site on the web. I trusted his decisions then and I trust them now.

I would like to thank Ann, Admin and everyone else behind the scenes for maintaining the integrety of YorkieTalk ... it cannot be an easy job!! :thumbup::thumbup:

Jen offered 'option 5' so here is my option 6 :D none of my options apply to school zones or even texting. You see a cop - drop that phone !

You see a reportable post here - report it one time only cause the there will be others doing the same thing and she is so busy being a mod - she can only do so much..and we WANT her to be able to post rather than be the po-po

Thanks for all the wonder work that you do! :) I'm sure that it can' be easy.

I also appreciate the work you do. I know when people pm you or admin, that sometimes it is based on rumors and falsehoods without that person knowing the actual facts or only hearing one side of the story which may or may not be the truth and you have to try to sort it out. That in itself is a huge job. All the admins and mods do a great job.:)
