Please don't re-chip her...my vet said not to do that with mine because it would be confusing if they were ever scanned and they could get conflicting information. Have her scanned and it should tell you what kind of chip it is and then you contact the company and give them your information. Yes, I absolutely agree! Gosh there was another thread about someone finding a lost dog, but the chip number was registered with the breeder, and the breeder never contacted the owner. This might be a good reminder if your dogs came with a chip, you need to register the number in your name.

yep and for all of us with dogs with chips on next visit to make sure to have our vets scan our dogs to make sure our info is in there correctly just in case of a situation like this

I bet the company that has the chip info can update with your info now at least i hope so

the thing is the breeder still insist that all her chips are registered to her.....even though i told her that vet that scanned it was not able to trace it back to anyone except the location that she was chipped in....and being that she is show breeder she keep saying no all my chips are registered to me....i even asked she can go update the chip since what just happen to Mei Ling...but she sounds confident that they are register so i dunno i am torn...lol

wow that is a tough one then as i know my parent's silky is registered to breeder too as she set it up this way as well

Mary, contact the company that the chip is registered through, they can help you change the information if the breeder does not respond to them, and if they can not change the information or the breeder wont allow it, at least get listed as secondary on her emergency contacts. There is a way to have it done right, just as long as everything is on the up and up!

I am so glad that you think it is her! I'm sure that you can ask to have her information changed to your since you do have a vet and all paperwork to prove ownership.

I believe it was the breeder that was contacted by the vet who scanned the lost dog. When the breeder didn't get back to the person who had the dog it was rehomed. Chipping is only as good as the person who finds your lost dog wants it to be.

All of the YHR rescued are chipped and the registration can be changed to the new owners after they are adopted. So it is possible to change the chip information.

You should have your vet scan and keep the chip number in your vets records along with a picture of your dog for identification purposes. That way if something were to ever happen you could refer to your vet for confirmation that they indeed belong to you.

Some breeders do want to be informed if the dog is lost, but does she contact you if she hears from the microchip company? Not sure what show breeder has to do with it, do you have breeding rights? Joey's breeder had it written in the contract that she has to approve of the place if we ever rehome Joey, or if something happens to us. I like the idea that she keeps close contact and feels responsible for all the offspring her dog produces.
