| Wiping hind feet on my bed My Tootsie has all of a sudden started wiping her hind feet and barking at any noise in the house. She only does this when she is on my bed or on the couch. She will jump up from a dead sleep and run to the end of the bed, barking and scratching her hind feet on the bed. Although cute, it scares the bajeebies out of me at night. I am sure this is some sort of new sign for dominance. She is very social and does not snap or bite and minds really well too. She has slept with me since she was 6 months old and has always slept through the night. Only recently has she developed this behavior. I wonder if she thinks it's her job to protect me LOL She is as big as a peanut. Is there something I can do to stop this behavior? |

| It's a thing they do to "kick up their scent," a way of showing another dog / possible intruder that "this is my territory." I had one that would do that, but only after she went potty.

| Levi does this when he can hear the coyotes "moving through" the back woods at night. I think he tries to protect us by doing this. It only happens when he thinks he hears something threatening to "his" humans.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Quote:
They have scent glands on the pads of the feet, and this little kick helps spread their scent, which for some Yorkies is very Frito-chip like! I love it when Joey does this, he reminds me of a little bull. For this type of barking some experts suggest that you should thank the dog, and say something like, "It's ok." This type of warning/barking is part of their job, and eventually they will get use to normal neighborhood sounds, and only bark if it really is a new type of sound. While a Yorkie may not be able to protect you, they definitely can warn you.

| I always thought it was cute - doin' like the BIG dogs do! I don't see it as behavior to stop; she's "come of age" and is becoming a watchdog. |
