(i knot the lead around the d-ring then i clip it threw the not and the d ring so you have to unknot the lead to get him off i did this because the kids used to let him off to show there friends and then he would jump out of there arms and run around the yard now im glad i started doing this when the man seen me he started running and yelling when i looked over at the neighbors yard there was a woman holding there puppy but she got her shirt stuck on the fence and could not run i yelled for my neighbor who is a large muscular man and the woman started to cry we held her until the police came and got her and by the end of the night they also had the man in custody i guess they normally buy dogs off craigslist and sell them for three times what they paid but people have gotten wise to them so they decided to step it up and steal a few pure breed dogs to sell
the most horrifying thing was that they live less then ten blocks from me and there daughter goes to school with my brother.
these people wear my neigbors i remember them from the neighborhood garage sale

So many dog thieves out there.. and the main culprit for this getting so bad is craigslist. And not just dogs but up here was recently had 4 home invasions by people responding to ads on craigslist. A man was shot and killed when 3 people came to look at a ring he had for sale. They pistol whipped his little boy and when the father tried to stop them they shot and killed him.

People are stealing dogs and selling them on CL, and a lot of other problems because of CL. When I am selling something I never ever let anyone come to my house. But most of the time I give stuff away on freecycle and again, nobody is allowed in my house.

I am so glad you caught these people and your dog is ok. How scary! I would have shot anyone on my property, especially if they were trying to take my dog!

I am so glad that woman's shirt got stuck. They deserve to be caught. I am just so, so, so, so, SO, so relieved that they didn't get Gatsby. I would have been very upset, as I'm fond of your lil dude.

I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. You just didn't need it right now. But I'm happy you saved little Gatsby and the neighbor pup. Whew! I'm certain you are still upset. Give Gatsby extra hugs & kisses tonight. He deserves them and you deserve a few extra hugs & kisses from Gatsby.

this is so horrible this is why i really dont take coby out and im going to
be the same way with lola because people will steal them
and you necer know when someones watching you with you baby
i now take coby out just in front of my house only
im so sorry this happen but glad you caught them... what a shame im thinking about buying a complete little gym for the puppys so they can play more in the house im scared this will happen to me i already had
a guy last week circle around me and my daughter and it look like
he was trying to take coby from us

That has ALWAYS been my policy. It's just not worth the risk, even though I have neighbors who leave their little dogs out, I just would not risk it. Time may be short, but I will walk my guys every few hours and leave pee pads out rather then ever let them out of my house unwatched; behind a fence or on a line. They play perfectly well indoors, another advantage of a toy breed.

Like everyone else here, I can't imagine how someone, however desperate, could try and steal someone else's beloved pet. Thanks for the post.

That is so awesome! I take it that you are still homecooking for him? I'm glad that he's doing so well. Do you have any recent pics?

My friend just posted yesterday on Facebook that his son's Shih Tzu was stolen at the park. The people who stole the puppy were caught, it was two 10 yr old boys! Their Mom was going to let them keep the puppy, but the neighbours saw posters and turned them in.

I used to envy people with fenced in back yards because I live in an apartment and I have to put the leash on Bailey and take her for a walk. Now, I'm kinda glad that I don't have to take a chance that some stranger is going to come along and steal my dog out of my yard. It is so sad that there are so many "crappy" people out there who take what doesn't belong to them. Even though our dogs are "property", they are our babies and it is heartbreaking to lose one.

I'm glad that you were able to stop what could have been a tragedy. I wish this world was safer for dogs and children.

I installed a security camera aimed at the front gate, shows the porch to the road and each side of the yard. It's displayed on the big screen TV, so I know as soon as someone is on the street without walking to the door. It wasn't very expensive.

My dad just bought one of these. He owns a security company so actually he may have gotten it free, but anyways, it's great. My dad has a big fenced in yard and we do let the dogs outside by themselves at certain times to potty, and luckily, there camera covers the whole backyard. I can watch Jackson on the screen the whole time he's out there, even at night.

I'm so glad Gatsby is okay and you caught those people!

How terrible. We are looking into moving and this is a constant fear of mine. I am glad that it all worked out well and you were able to assist in bringing the other dogs justice.
