YT 500 Club Member | i taught penny to give paw in about three days get a really strong smelling treat like chicken give her a few pieces to get her really into the treat then pinch it in your fingers so she can smell it but not eat it...she will try over and over to get it from you and eventually she will try to paw your fingers open as soon as sbhe raises her paw grab it with your other hand and give her command ie shake give paw whatever you choose do not give the command until she does it though or she wont know what action goes with the word ...they learn FAST

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Tuffy is our 1st furkid & he'd had some work on basic stuff when we got him...stay & up he knew real well & sit (if he felt like it). We decided to use just 1 word commands if we could. When you ask your pup to sit it's easy to then get them to lay down if you are lower than they are (edge of a footstool or other low to the ground platform) as you lower the treat in a closed downward hand & say lay. After they've mastered lay down getting them to roll over just requires you to physically roll them over (it make take a few times but you'll be very suprised how fast they get it) while you use your hand with the treat to show them the motion & say roll. Oh & PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE Have fun & your pup will too

| We can do sit, down, stay, and paw, and that's it lol. The real trick expert on here is Britster. Her dog, Jackson, can do so many tricks! He can spin, play dead, say his prayers... EVERYTHING!!! |

| My 15 week old baby can sit, lay down, roll over, come, and sit pretty. The best thing I can tell you, is train when they are willing to. I usually train her midday with her dry food. She loves to learn but is a little stubborn. It'll take some repetition but pretty soon you'll see that it pays off! |

| The way I taught mine to roll over was having them go into the down position...with a yummy treat(chcken or cheese), then turn your hand in a circular motion saying "roll over, roll over"...get closer to her body so you are slightly rolling her over with your hand /arm. Give her the treat as soon as she goes over...and of course big praise. (you could even sing the kids song while saying "Roll Over ,Roll Over,...so they all rolled over and one fell out...three bears/Yorkies in the bed and the little one said...roll over, roll over) I know it's crazy, but that's the Pre-K teacher in me. Crawling is easier.... get her in the down position, then drag your treat hand on the floor while saying "crawl, crawl" Make sure she stays in the down positon. Even just a little crawl deserves a treat and praise. She'll get the idea. I don't have a song for that one.

| As you can see, there are many ways to teach the same trick! See which works better for you and your pup. Here's how I did some of the tricks. Shake (give me paw): My command was give me paw (and now a Spanish command) because I wanted to later teach him to shake his body on command. I didn't want two tricks associated with the same command. Anyway, to teach give me paw I would put my boy in a sit, show him the treat with my left hand, take it away, say the command and then with my right hand, grab his right paw and shake it. If he allowed me to hold his paw and shake it, he got the treat. If he pulled away, I tried again. Eventually, all I had to do was offer him my right hand, and say the command. He now lifts his little paw and places it in my hand. Down: I tried using the treat and placing it on the floor when he was in the sit position and sometimes he would just get up and try to "dig" the treat out of my hand. The way he learned was to grab the treat with one hand and put my hand on the ground while saying "down". With my other hand I grabbed his two front paws and gently pulled them forward. With no legs to stand on he was forced into the down position. Now all I have to say is down and he does it by himself. Bang-Bang: This one is easy! Have your pup in the down position. Say "bang bang," even do the hand motion if you like, and with the other hand gently push him on his side. If he stays even for a fraction of a second, give him the treat. Eventually you won't have to push him down and he'll stay "dead" for longer. Roll Over: Start with the down position. Show your baby the treat. Say the command while moving the treat from in front of his nose to behind his right ear. Continue to move your hand in the direction you want him to roll, in this case the right, and with his nose as a lead his body will follow. To get them to roll over to the left, move the treat from the nose to behind the left ear and then move your hand to the left. For all the tricks it's treat, praise and repetition. Eventually you will phase out helping him finish the trick as he learns what you want him to do. Good luck!!
