This is precisely the point that I no longer feel the need to hide my wise-guy persona and actually wish he had a few friends to join in to beat the pulp out of these morons. My alter ego then replies "Oh, but he IS a real dog that can do REAL tricks. As matter of fact he's doing his best one now...he's pretending he's really happy to see you when in fact, he's peeing on your shoe because it's his favorite place to do potty. You better stop petting him before he has to go number 2". I immediately turned and started walking away with Rocco (who really WAS peeing on her shoe because he was excited ). I smiled all the way home!!

Lol, love your "alter ego"! And maybe, just maybe, Rocco can hear your alter ego!

Getting peed on is nothing to joke about IMO, just gross. When I used to get questions like these (rarely happens anymore, since one of my new yorkies is very hostle to strangers and I have a terrible time trying to train him to be "nice"), I always would explain with minimal sarcasm that yes, they are full grown, no, they were not the same breed as Toto, yes, they act much the same as any other dog and love to play fetch and do anything any other terrier likes to do (including roll in skunk spray if you let them).

Igorant people just need to be educated if they will listen, at least the ladies agreed Rocco was cute, and that is a start.

Agreed, it is a bit gross to be peed on. But trust me, it wasn't like he lifted his leg and let go on her...it was just a little trickle because he was excited. I would normally have pulled him away immediately and apologized, but I happened to notice at the exact moment she asked the "real dog" question. I truly do love when people ask questions about him and take an interest, not expecting them to be experts...but these ladies were just rude in their words and expressions. I'll try to keep my tongue under control next time, promise. As for Rocco, I can only hope he learns to control his excitement now that flip-flop season is here!

I know what you are saying, I never get strange looks or comments about our darling GSD, but the moment I mention my yorkie, their whole domineer changes, like OOOHHHH, you have one of those, or like mentioned earlier "one of those people"....ok??? Yep, I've also gotten the "rat" comment before and the "one of those people" looks. Probably why I was fresh to those ladies, because they were the final straw (and probably the dumbest comments I've heard). But really, I just smile inside because I know what they're missing and what I have.

I was at a pet store in the grooming section asking about clippers. An employee walks in and says I never knew we groomed rats!!!

Now I am not the shy type to not say anything at all about this!! So I just stared at him and of course he didn't look at me.

I didn't need cricket food which is his dept. but decided to get them today. He helped me and I told him, "does she look like a rat to you"!! He was shocked and responded well what is she.

Then I went and checked out and asked to speak to the manager. I told her my story and she said they'd deal with it.

I have never been back to that pet store again!

People are a**holes.
