| Anyone take classes on obedience classes? So we went to the park for Tuckers birthday and my grandaughter was holding him on his chain and all of a sudden he took of at full speed across the park to a couple with a larger dog and wouldn't stop. He was such a bad boy he started jumping on her and wasn't very nice. The gentleman grabbed his chain and had him hanging in the air. I ran to get him and told him thank-you and that I was so sorry. I really wish that I could get him to listen a little better that was not a good sight. Does anyone take obedience classes and does it seem to help? My groomer said that petsmart has them and suggested that I look into them. When we were out for our walk the other night I saw a lady with two dogs on the other side of the street walking and she didn't even have her dogs on a leash and they were so well behaved I just couldn't believe it they stopped at the corner and just sat there until she told them to go and didn't even attempt to let us on the other side bother them even with my three barking at them. Wow I was super impressed. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | We did go to Petsmart obedience training and were very pleased with the results. We had an excellent trainer though, and from what I hear some are not as good as ours was. But, definitely obedience classes should help your naughty boy Please be sure to use a harness, not a collar and lead. The trainer most likely will want you to use a collar, but don't - with yorkies collars can injure their trachea's.

| I was not so fortunate with Petsmart when Buddy was 6mos old. Our trainer was worthless and I threw money away but they are all different. Perhaps you can ask who the trainer is then look him up and see exactally how good he is. Buddy is now 6yrs old and I have been working with a trainer due to his guarding issues, which are now resolved but will always be in him. I now know how to keep them buried so they don't appear. However, I have joined him in group sessions starting mid May. I want him around larger dogs outside of our complex. He's afraid of large dogs and would do the same as your little one did, not knowing what could happen to him he would just go after them to show them he's not afraid, meanwhile they could kill him. I am hoping the sessions will relax him and make him not afraid. If your not pleased with the trainer at Petsmart look for a private one on line in your area. That's how I found ours. It was well worth the money. Good luck, |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Classes can be terrific and fun if you have a good trainer. You have to remember that the classes are just to teach 'you' how. It's entirely up to you and your continuous followup as to how successful the classes and training are. It can often be an on going thing. That trainers well behaved off leash took some continuous work for it to look so easy. Know that going into the classes, and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Thor's Human Donating Member | You can also train him to Come on your own. It's pretty easy and fun for both of you. It always makes me smile to see Thor streaking back across the park to me when I call him.

| Petsmart training is totally dependent on the trainer, many years ago I threw money away there with a terrible trainer... however, they recently got a new trainer and I was looking to take some lessons with Armani so I went and spoke with her... she has three yorkies of her own and she understands the issue with collars and allows you to train on a harness. She was wonderful... we took a private class with her since I had already taught him the basics that he would have learned in a beginner class and we went over specific things that I had been having a hard time teaching him and it was wonderful. Taking some training classes with your dog is a great idea, just make sure that you agree with the methods and that it is fun for you and your dog.

| You want a real pro, especially for these little guys. I have watched several Petsmart classes. One was good, one was not. we went to a facility where all they do is train, 1 day, 1 week, 44 weeks of living on the premises. They are smart, stubborn little dogs. The Yorkie was a lot harder to train than the big Cane Corso. It takes time, patience, and more time, with a lot of work for both of you. Since she is already an attack dog, I did not provide her the Personal Protection training that I did for the big dog. My wife also would not let me get the Yorkie into weight pulling. She is just the Princess! |

Yorkie Yakker | I have put Harley into obedience classes at Petsmart with great success. Our trainer is wonderful and really seems to care. She herself owns 3 Great Danes and brings them with her and they are very well behaved and one is only 6 months old. Just my opinion but I really feel that this training has helped us to bond even more. And this training could even save his life at some point. We're only at the halfway point but Harley can "sit" and "stay" and "leave it" and "take it". We're working on "drop it". Next week he has to sit and stay while a stranger pets him. Don't know how that's gonna go. |
