| Sophie Kate is not fond of children either, she doesn't bark or snarl but she will hide behind me. I think it is because she is not around children a lot. If we are out and a child wants to pet her I pick her up and then I let the child pet her.

| Lexie my maltese L-O-V-E-S kids... she's 6yr. Madison the yorkie 2 yr not so much. We go to the park for playdate every weekday and she loves her doggie kid friends. But if kids come around lexie walks up to them, Madison runs to me. if they come near me, she will act as though she will nip at them. I think given the chance she may. I've never wanted to find out. I think the treat idea is worth a try.. I am gonna try it. |

| 2 of my grandkids come over ALL the time!! 4 and 7 years old. Mr.Darcy is fine with them - when he hears them come in he runs to the door and jumps up on them and is very excited. Then after they have been here a little while, he disappears under our bed! Lizzie - 4 months old (who has been with us one whole week tomorrow!) barks as soon as they come in, wants me to pick her up, and hides behind me when they are trying to pet her. I figured it was because she was raised in a home, with a lady, and not around kids, but after reading here, maybe it is just "a yorkie"!! and while we are on the subject of who yorkies like and dislike - she seems to be leary of my husband - she backs off when he tries to pet her but will lie beside him on the couch. Does anyone think this is because of not being used to kids and men from birth to 4 months old? Should I make her sit on the grandkids laps, and hope she gets to like kids better?

| My Lexie doesn't like kids either. I have to warn children not to approach her because she will nip at them. I've had my nephew give her treats so she'll know that children are okay, but I don't know if that will help.

| My yorkie, 3 yrs old, has been around my daughters since the day I brought her home...but still barks at other children. It doesn't matter if they are in my house or not. It is starting to become a problem since my daughters should be able to have their friends over without the nonstop barking. My daughters were 8 and 15 and are now 11 and 18. These are not very small children, but that does not matter. Last edited by DaisyRanger; 10-17-2010 at 06:54 AM. |
