| Xpen or Kitchen??? Trixie has been with us a month now and will be 4 months old on the 19th...what a joy she is......but I do have a little problem. She is in an xpen setup with peepads, her crate and food. Its a fairly large 6 panel xpen and her peepads are at one end of the pen opposite her crate. She pees and poos on them just fine....problem is whenever we enter the room or she hears us and wants out, she hops up and down the length of the pen spreading poops all over the place. She needed two baths today to get the poopies off her feet ugh!! Should I buy two more panels to make the xpen wider and leave the pads to one side or do I just move her and her peepads, crate and bowls to the kitchen. Our kitchen is about 13' X 12'.......is it too big for potty training??? What have ya'all done and what do you think I should do. Thanks.

| We kept Bailey in a 4x4 expen while potty training. It is important to keep the area small until they learn bladder control. At 8 mos - she was holding it all day so I doubled her expen to 8x8. At one year, she had run of the house. We kept her expen in the basement because the basement has full length windows (so she could watch outside). We didn't have the poop problem in the pen- tho. Bailey has always pooped outside. She's a once a day pooper - so we don't bring her in until she poops. Good luck.

| Brandi was doing this too. I keep her in a 4x4 pen during the day while I'm at work. She pretty much has the same setup as your little one. She would do the same thing, basically stepping in her poop when she get excited to see me and smearing everywhere in her xpen. I didn't do anything special, just one day she stopped stepping in her poop. I think what happen was she started to associate getting a semi bath almost everyday to wipe the poop off her paws with stepping in her poop and she just stopped. When she didn't smear poop all over the place, I didn't have to wipe her down. I think she figured out what was happening. She hated having to get wet almost everyday. I haven't had to wipe her down now in almost two months. It's great not having to come home and clean her and then the xpen. Last edited by yavenay; 04-18-2010 at 05:56 AM. |

| Thanks guys!! I sure do hope that Trixie gets the idea that if she stops stomping in the poop, I will stop bathing her all the time.

| So I decided to expand her xpen by two more panels...now she will be in a square that is about 5' X 5' and I will leave her peepads and everything else set up as it is which will be to one side of the xpen. Hopefully she will hop along the panels at the front where there are no pads....and poop along the other side on the pads (lol...I did say hope!!). We will see! Thanks everyone!

| Which x pen do you have? Is there a way to connect it to a small crate so there is more room? |
