| my grandmother always let her dog sleep in the bed with her (and us when i was there). i loved it. my husband has always said he hates dogs (i think he means those dogs that are penned in a back yard and bark all the time cus they're starved for attention). or my mom's dog who barks and jumps on you every time you walk in the door - i don't care for those types either! anyhow - i was amazed when he was on board with getting a dog - and SHOCKED when he didn't say a word about her sleeping with us! he even tries to get her to sleep with him now if i'm not ready for bed! |

| I guess I am in the minority here. DBF is dead-set against Roxie sleeping in the bed with us. She also doesn't like going up the stairs, so she sleeps in the living room. She has her bed and blankets inside her playpen, and she is perfectly happy sleeping there at night.

| Samy sleeps in his bed at night which is in the room next to our bedroom. We close the door and turn off the light in his room. He also sleeps in his bed when we are not at home but with the light on. We got him used to it from day one as I used to get rashes when Karolina slept with us in bed (maybe because she would come under the covers and lay fully against my back). But either day, my doctor said I am allergic to dog saliva so I had to be careful. And my husband does not like the idea of sleeping with a dog in bed most of the time. When we got Samy he had to sleep in his bed as he was sooo tiny - we could crush him with one wrong move. If we have been away from home and get back late at night, we take Samy in our bed as he would not fall asleep otherwise (he usually sleeps all though the time we are not at home so he is not sleepy when we get back, but as soon as he is in bed with us, he calls asleep). Also on weekends, we take him in the bed in the morning and he sleeps in with us. During the day Samy would sleep on my lap or the pillow next to me on the couch.

It is good that Samy loves his bed - big, cousy, puffy and warm

| Some trainers believe that dogs sleeping in the bed CAUSES dominance issues but I dont believe that is true... if a dog already has an issue with dominance and they are displaying it in bed (i.e. biting you when you get in bed, growling at other pets/people who come near the bed, etc.) then they should be removed from the bed. But otherwise there is no reason not to let them sleep with you if that is what you like to do!

Yorkie Yakker | We started with Okie he is a Maltese. We got him when he was 4 years old. We tried to put him in our bed but he would bite my boyfriend if he came any where near me. We got Okie with a crate and he loved his crate (still does, I think he loves it to much and many times in the day time I shut the door so he cant get in) So it was off to the crate at night time for Okie after the boyfriend was bit about 4 times. Then I found Cricket (Yorkie) he was 2 when I got him. He had already suffered a broken leg when he was a puppy from falling off a chair. He didn't come with a crate, I had to buy a crate on the way to bringing him home since he was all over my car and mostly at my feet and I was the driver! Thank goodness there was a Pet-smart up the street, I put Cricket in a cart and went in the store to get a crate, he jumped out of the cart! Landed on the cement floor! He was ok... sheww Cricket is not very cuddly as far as holding him, he will sit in your lap a few seconds but then he has to jump down and go find a toy for you to try and get from him LOL I haven't tried to put him in the bed yet, he is to busy and I am scared he could get hurt jumping down, or I wouldn't want to roll over him. He wasn't crate trained but with time he has learned to be ok with it. Still we have some nights when you say bed time and he runs the wrong way! But that's Cricket ! |

Yorkie Yakker | Miss Zoey sleeps in her kennel, on my bed, with my covers over her kennel. She loves sleeping like that and that is the only way because she is a terror and would destroy the house if left unwatched.

| Rio sleeps in bed with my DH and me. We have a King bed and her little 3lb. body takes up 80% of the bed and my hubby and I have learned to sleep on the edge on either side of her! She has a kennel with the door off in our bedroom in case she ever wants to sleep in there but she prefers to sleep with us. She sleeps on top of the covers though - I worry that she's cold but we always have the thermostat set to at least 74 all night. We also have beds all over the house for her to take her naps during the day but she usually sleeps in her special spot on the sofa. |
