Is buying from newspaper ad safe/good? Hi again! Thanks to all who gave advice in previous msg! Wanted to know your opinions on buying a Yorkie from a newspaper ad? I know buying from a breeder is probably best, but budget-wise, prices are high. Doesn't mean we won't love and care for our new addition!! Are more health problems (like live shunts) found with Yorkies purchased from an individual/family than a professional breeder?? Thanks for any info!!!!

My advice: Just look for the best price among breeders! Even if comes out a little more expensive than buying on ads, it will probably save in the long run. A responsible and hones breeder will also teach you how to care for your new puppy...so in my opnion, the extra cost is really worth it.

I think I might be repeating this but I found my yorkie for $400.00 in the newspaper. I tried my best at being patient for a doggy to find the right price (one I could afford). I ended up buying my puppy from a breeder that advertised in the newspaper. They have girl puppies for $500.00, as well. I think that's a really good price compared to other breeders. She explained to me that she did it as a hobby and she's charging what she would want to pay for a puppy. She also sends them home paper trained, on dry food only (she has them on wet food and slowly takes it away from them before she hands him over to you), and she also shaves their ears for you so the ears would stick up. Such a great lady. All in all, I'm sure you can find a pretty good price on a puppy if you kind of just search around a bit. The right one will come along!

i bought toby from the newspaper and he is an HEALTHY dog........ i swear he eats like a horse, sometimes i think i should make a saddle to go on him hes a whopping 8 lbs........anyways, i of course did my homeowrk and looked around/ called SMANY places before i got toby.... i learned loads of what to look for by bieng a member here, so i made ana appointment to look at the puppy, and the breeder was teh right 'kind' he asked me questions he made sure that I knew about yorkies, i even called when toby had kennel cough and he gave me advice and asked me to keep him posted this important thing is to be aware of exactly what kind of person you are getting the puppy from, a lot of people that advertise through the paper are possible back yard breeders, but not ALL of them are like that, there are those few (like toby's breeder) that really care about the yorkies good luck

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | We also got our newest one from out of the newspaper...we had looked on the internet for breeders and found them to be really high, so we pulled out the newspaper and called and called...once we found we liked we asked tons of questions and then went to met the person...she was wonderful, she had both parents on site, very very nice and answered any questions we asked...not all people from the newspaper are this way, but if you look hard and search good, you too will find the right puppy for you...our Sailor is very healthy, we have had no problems at all...
