Can Yorkies wear collars?

I feel they should always wear a collar with tags...If they get lost how will someone instantly know where he belongs to and his name...I use the Harness when I walk him but he still has his collar on...Not too tight make sure you can get a finger and a half in between his neck and collar...I love how the tags jingle but my poofball learned how to tip toe so we don't hear him..lol

Yes to collars,

but

No to cuffs....... esp. French cuffs........ they can't seem to get the cuff links in correctly.........

Yes that is MY personal experience, I never stated anything otherwise. So why jump on me?

I respect that some don't, I prefer to have them on my dogs at all times

I for one would not take a chance in putting my yorkies in harms way. I've seen to many incidents of horrible accidents happen to yorkies with collars. Yes, my dogs they have dog license....and it is required by law for them to have them, but they are on their harness when we go out in public, not on a collar. My show dogs, well for obvious reasons, I have in an envelope in my grooming bag.....

Dog license is required by law, however, when one is intent on taking your yorkie....they'll just take that collar off. I have nothing on my dogs that identifies them by name....

Of course everyone handles things differently, I never said they didn't. That is my experience and I have never had a problem.

Nor would I ever put my dogs in harms way. I do not feel I am putting them in harms way by placing a collar and tags on them.

The ONLY problem I had was with those awful S rings for holding the tags on, and so I no longer use those. My dogs were playing and one got caught on the other dogs eye lid. I was right there so no damage was done. I shudder every time I think about what could of happened!

We use little bells when they were little. I use plastic tags otherwise But I do have a couple with a metal tag that has an epoxy coating over them. I like the thick plastic ones better though.

First thing I do when I get a new puppy or dog is get a collar and tag. I still need to have Pennie and Gracie chipped though.

I don't want my dogs collars to come off.

I would like to add that I do not leave them alone to run the house when I go somewhere. they are crated for safety in case of a fire they can be found and removed quickly. I remove collars of the ones who are in a wire crate only.

I am home 90% of the time, and usually if I am out, someone else is at home.

Quick question.... is this the same as rabies vaccine? I do not have a license for my dogs. Thanks

You should probably get a license, the law says:

If the dog is not wearing a tag, the dog shall be destroyed, unless legally claimed by the owner within two (2) days. If you have a license, they will try and contact you, and this gives you 5 days.

Under RABIES TAG DISPLAY and Davidson County Ordinance it says:

It shall be unlawful for any person to own, keep, or harbor any dog or animal which does not wear a tag evidencing the required rabies vaccination.

Davidson County Ordinance 8.04.070 Dog license tags issued pursuant to this chapter shall be supplied by the department of health, to be made available in its budget, out of the revenues of the metropolitan government.

It shall be the duty of the owner to attach such license tag to a collar which shall be worn at all times by each dog licensed.

Uni also knows how to do this, if she wants to be extra sneaky. We call it "stealth mode".

my dogs wear collars with tags and harness's for walking. I take the collars off when I put them in thier kennels. My dogs are always put in thier kennels at night and when we leave. So no choking issues for us..

I agree that these little dog should always be walked on a harness for their own safety, this should be only common sense.

I had a similar experience. I am a firm believer in collars with tags AT ALL TIMES.
