natnatt - to answer your question, those charts are estimates. Theres absolutely no guarantee as to the size of your little one. Now to my opinion - I have a 5.5 lb and a 4 lb yorkie - they're both VERY healthy, and they're still VERY small...a lot of people don't think they're full grown yet, in fact. I wish you the best of luck

| When I went to pick up Oliver from his foster family, I knew he was over 9lbs. I wanted a larger one, 7 pounds or under seemed too small for me. I quickly realized when I saw him that 9.4 pounds is small, too! He's now filled out to nearly 11 pounds, and I LOVE it. When I began the search for another Yorkie, I asked how much the puppies currently weigh... when the breeders asked why I asked, I would say, because I am hoping to get one that will be close to Oliver in weight, but that I understand there are no guarantees and the dog will be loved regardless. The breeders ALL were shocked that I was asking because I wanted a larger yorkie, everyone wants tiny's. My puppy is over 3 pounds at 8 weeks. I'm hoping she hits 4 pounds before I bring her home at 12 weeks. If she happens to never hit 4 pounds.. I will love her just the same. You should love your puppy because he's your puppy. If you don't not want a 5 pound dog, then you have no business getting a puppy, IMHO. Get a full grown dog. You can never be sure how big or small they will be. From what I've read this puppies life is already in grave danger. If it happens to survive and grow and thrive, how awful would it be for it to be abandoned because it grew too large. It's already lost it's mom and will be missing out on many life lessons from being with its pack. These dogs never care if we gain weight (thank goodness, lol), so why should we care if they do. Unconditional love should go both ways. Oliver and I love each other despite our faults.

| Ihave read several of the posts started by this user. I'm wondering if she is really serious or if she she is just trying to get attention. We have a dog who is a little under 5 lbs and we WISH he would gain a little more weight! You have to worry about them every minute of the day! If you drop an advil, or a rolaid, or a GRAPE! You have to worry about people accidentally stepping on them or sitting on them or about them jumping off of the furniture! How could ANYONE wish to have a dog 3 lbs? The health risks to these babies are just HUGE!! Please educate yourself if you are serious! We love our little baby and we wouldn't trade him for the world but, he is fragile and has to be treated that way. They have tons of health issues because they were not meant to be this tiny. People breed them tiny to make money off of uneducated people that want a toy not a dog! |

| I think the OP may have left this one, simply because she saw all the outrage at her comment...I too am beginning to think it's for attention...or perhaps she came into this thinking one thing and doesn't want to admit that she's learned, and is going to take the tiny, too young pup anyways? hmm...I totally agree though, I don't think I would like to ever go smaller than my little 4 lb Tank.

| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I got my JoJo at 9weeks he weighed 3.2lbs when I took him to the vet ... I was surprised...but I am glad now that he will be on the larger side of the spectrum b/c of my 5 yr old daughter... he is now 13wks and I havent weighed him yet but even now he is small... I don't think I could picture my self w/ a smaller dog... he is just perfect, and no matter how large he gets I will still love him, and I know my kids and even my husband (who got him for me, but really didn't want another dog) will love him. 5 lbs isn't that big if you really think about it. my mini dachshund is 11lbs and she is small... I cant carry her in a bag but she is small...
