Yorkie Yakker | New to YorkieTalk - Heartbroken I did a Google search last night to find a way to deal with my Yorkshire's new health problems. His name is Cricket. On Feb 16th a large dog got a hold of Cricket. This left him fecal incontinence. Its not long since his accident and im not sure I can deal with it. I was looking for tips for this kind of problem to make both our lives easier. I love this dog more than anything, he has lived up to his name! He loves to jump and he can jump very high. Now when he tries to jump his leg just collapses. I am told he will need surgery on his knee but this wont fix the leg problem. A nerve was damaged. I have a stack of bills and I have no idea where the money will come from for this surgery he needs, however the vet says that this is in the future. Its very sad to watch him walk now, he dosent walk like normal anymore. I am open to any suggestions to help us to be able to live together more smoothly. |

| I'm sorry Cricket got hurt and I do hope he will heal quickly. Who owns the dog that attacked him? Have you talked to anyone about making the owner of the other dog pay the vet bills? What are the Florida laws regarding pet owner responsibility? |

Yorkie Yakker | Florida has leash laws. This attack happened on my property, but I hate to say Cricket was not on a leash. The neighbor owns the dog that attacked. Since neither dog was on a leash the other owner feels he is not responsible. |

| Lot's of love can go along way. Dog's adjust to almost anything, given time and can lead a happy and healthy life. Give your baby time to adjust to what he can do and what he can't do. Dog's are smart and he will adjust in time. If you know the owner's of the dog who did this, without a doubt report it so it's on record and send them the bills. They are responsible if their dog was lose. Please think positivie and reajust yourself to your baby's life as it is now. They seem to adjust fine it's us who have the hard time. I wish you good luck. Glad you found us and you will find lot's of support here. Welcome and again I'm sorry your baby went thro this tragedy but he's alive and it sounds like he just wants to continue living. Hugs, |

| Did the other dog come to your property and attack Cricket??!??!?! If Cricket is on your property and the neighbor's dog came to your property, I don't see why it isn't their fault! |

YT Addict | Sorry to hear this happened to your poor baby. I would think that he is responsible because his dog was on your property. If he had been on a leash this would not have happened whether your dog was on a leash or not. Your dog was in your yard. Again, I'm sorry and hope your baby heals quickly.

You were on your own property, not walking your dog on public streets, maybe that is different. I don't know. His dog was off leash on your property. Please look into this, you may get justification. I can't imagine not wanting to be responsible for someone else's heartbreak if my dog was the aggressor. I hope it works out for you. | |

| Ditto this. The only other thing I would suggest is pet insurance if you can afford it. Dogs are incredibly adaptive so give him time.

| have you tried diapers, you will have to clean him but it might help you deal with this until you get it under control.it would be soo horrible for you to have to give him up because of this problem the only other suggestion i have would be feed him on a schedule so you know about when he will need to go and he can be taken out side

| I agree with the others. The owner of the dog who attacked Cricket is liable under Florida law whether he believes he is or not. 767.01 Dog owner's liability for damages to persons, domestic animals, or livestock.--Owners of dogs shall be liable for any damage done by their dogs to a person or to any animal included in the definitions of "domestic animal" and "livestock" as provided by section 585.01. It should be pretty straightforward to bring a claim in small claims court to cover all Cricket's veterinary expenses. Florida Small Claims Court Information |

| I think you can file a claim against the dog owner's home owner's insurance. I know that if the other dog had bitten your child on your property, his Home Owner's Insurance would cover that so it may cover damages to your pet, too. If your neighbor will not relinquish this info to you, contact a liability attorney to see what you can do. The initial consultation is free, and usually you don't have to pay the attorney until you make a recovery.

| Ahhhh...honey, I think you came to the right place for support and guidance. Has Criket seen a specialist yet? As for money to pay the bills, have you applied for Care Credit yet? I do believe that he and you will adjust one way or another. My friend has a little Yorkie that has a deformed rear leg, it kinda hangs there, but she adjusted and really does quite well. As far as the fecal part, well, you can certainly look into diapers Keep us posted |
