Is this a "chocolate" yorkie?

WOWZA!!! Looks like a chocolate bar to me, CUTE AS ALL GET OUT!!!
BUT, So is the lil fella beside him....they are BOTH DOLLS!!!

The others are right, when it comes to the chocolate and golden yorkies. Sorry, i posted without answering any of your questions! However, i still think they, like the parti coloreds, are soo beautiful. Here are links to more pics:

No, I don't agree with you. If you are reputable breeder you are breeding to improve the breed and follow the Yorkshire Terrier Standard set for by the YTCA/AKC. You do everything in your power to improve the breed. But, I do agree with you, more that goes into making a reputable breeder than just putting two dogs together. You do not breed for off colored yorkies and sell them as rare for high prices. Just as you don't breed purposely for tinies and sell them for high prices. I'm not saying that producing a tiny or an off colored yorkie is unheard of in a reputable breeder's program. But, I repeat, we "do not sell them", they are spay/nuetered and "placed" in approved homes. In my opinion if you are breeding, you should be following a code of ethics and conduct.

A reputable breeder will strive to breed to the breed standard including correct colour. Therefore, yes, purposely breeding to produce wrong colour in the eye of the reputable show breeder is considered to be a breeder not breeding for the right reasons and considered to not be reputable. Mardelin is absolutely correct.

Thanks for all the info everyone. There are 2 of them listed in the newspaper here. The one picture, they want 400.00 and another is 1,800.00. I am debating as to whether I need another "kid" or not. He/She is way adorable and I think I may just go for it!

Wow! that is a big spread. What is the difference between them? The pix you posted is sure a cutie.

Yeah, I know, thats mainly the reason I started the thread. I wanted to know if it was indeed a chocolate yorkie and if there should be such a price difference. Anyways, they sold him yesterday

My daughter in law is a professional photographer and she took a lot of pictures of Gabby a few weeks ago. She has been so busy with weddings she hasn't had the time to send them to me. As soon as she does I will, of course, share.

I am shocked to think that a person is so closed minded about a color and will lump all breeders of color in one category and make a blanket statement about them, yet does not recognize the horrible breeding practices that many show breeders take part in. I would look inward before pointing any fingers at anyone. As for making money, I for one have lost large quantities of money on breeding, from traditionals and from the Yorkies of color. Investing in a stud male from a reputable show breeder with great bloodlines, raising him for over a year, multiple vet bills for all the testing (eyes, knees, bile acids, etc) and normal vet items, care, food, etc... only to have a male that in my opinion is not breed worthy, neutering him and placing him for free in a loving pet home, and starting the process all over. How many of us have done that? I have more than once with males and females. Not counting the mommy checkups and xrays before the birth, the set up for the birth, sleepless nights on end, c-sections,loss of a puppy or a litter, check ups after the birth, tails, dewclaws, shots, check up before going to the new home, standing by a puppy and offering a replacement or money back if something goes wrong...and the list goes on...
I think maybe that what was trying to be said was that there are some unethical breeders out there who should not be breeding, period! Let us not point fingers at a group of breeders just because you do not care for the deviation from the standard color.
Just my opinion of course.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And as I said earlier, if you breed these off colored yorkie then you are breeding out side the standard.

Why would this be shocking to anyone. I'm a YTCA member and follow a strict code of ethics and conduct.....with Breeding to Improve the breed within the standard. Until they change the standard, you won't change my mind.

OOPS! I probably should have edited out a few things in that quote that did not apply. My apologies. I do have great respect for YTCA and members like yourself Mardelin. As I said, you are one of the people who does not post mis-information on here and are very knowledgeable and always very respectful.
That said, I feel like it is a blanket statement to put breeders in a category of one deragatory sort or another just because they have the Color Passion!
