| Hi there, I'm no expert, but I moved in July of last year and Harley did just fine. Granted, she was only 5 months old, but still a change. I'd say first off, YOU need to be comfortable with the move ~ not that you aren't, I'm sure you're excited, but I mean comfortable with moving WITH her. Does that make sense? Dogs pick up on our energy and if she senses that you're tense or unsure of how she'll react to the transition, then it will probably be tougher than if you just relax, and go with the flow. Secondly, is there any way you can maybe begin driving to your new neighborhood, parking, and taking her for a walk, maybe let her sniff out the new yard? This could help her adjust to the new environment before you actually move in. I did this with Harley for about 3 weeks before moving in, but it was easier for me because we already owned the house and we were renovating so I was able to actually spend some time each day going there and then leaving. This way it was already a familiar place on move-in day. Maybe try getting some of her favorite things set out before you bring her in? Let her sniff it out and when she goes around to explore, give her a treat and say excitely. "we're home!." I think it's normal for there to be a little apprehension, as she's seen you packing boxes and running around...lets face it, moving is stressful and they can feel that. But once you get in and get settled, I think she'll be just fine. Just remember to take some time out from unpacking each day and love on her Good luck and congratulations! Let us know how it goes

| I have moved a lot with mine. The first thing I do is bring USED bedding of theirs... I never wash their stuff before the move... this way the same scent is on their stuff. Second, when I get to the new place I set them up FIRST. Everything of theirs get taken out and put into a place so they feel comfortable. Also, during the move, I keep them crated, this way with movers or people in and out there is no chance of them getting loose. I also only give them access to one room at a time in the new place so that they slowly get acclimated to the new location. If possible I try not to leave them alone for the first few days at the new place... it usually works because I am busy unpacking anyway. Good Luck... mine always do just fine! |

| ~Thanks ya'll for the great advice. I was worried because I've heard so many horror stories about pets getting stressed. I think everything will go smoothly, as long as I don't stress out. But just since we've been packing I've had one girl going poop in different places of the house. Thought maybe she was starting to stress since everything is disappearing and going into boxes. But I've given her extra love and attention since and now she isn't going all over the place. Thanks again!!! |

| We just moved a couple of months ago. I had a close friend take General Lee for the day while the movers came. That was a help. He did get stressed and pretty much stopped eating regularly for almost 2 weeks before we left. When we got to the new place, different state, I had him on the leash and we walked through the new place and he sniffed a lot. He also had to adjust to hardwood floors and stairs. It took a couple weeks, but he is fine now. They will get stressed it is how you help then through it that is important. Please take care and I hope all goes well with the move. |
