| Dog whines constantly only when around other dogs I have a male yorkie, he is a little over a year old, he is not neutered and he whines constantly when around other dogs, and we cant get him to stop, it makes it unpleasant to take him anywhere with us that there is another dog, because he whines the whole time. does anyone have some advice on how to correct this? will getting him neutered stop this? any advice would be helpful. thanks |

| In his eyes, he is warning you, and is in distress. I would start off trying to correct the behavior without any sign of aggression or scolding on your part, as his behavior will turn towards you. Have a friend bring another male over and begin by getting his attention on you and as soon as the other dog makes an appearance, give yours a special treat , that is used only for this training, and praise him for not whining when giving him the treats. Keep practicing, bringing the other dog in and out, and it should cure the behavior; but it will take time on both of your parts in the form of training him "out" of the bad behavior. Good luck , keep us posted. |

| Is there any reason you have not gotten him neutered yet? Are the females you are talking about spayed or unaltered? If there is a female in heat then yes he will whine. When he is whining is he looking up at you or pulling on the leash? Do you let him play with the other dogs? Is he trying to run to the other dogs...It very easily could be distress or a female or just wants to play.

| no particular reason he hasnt been neutered, we just have never had any issues with him marking or humping, that i pushed the issue and he is so small i worry about him being put to sleep. the female im talking about my cousins dog, and yes she is spayed and almost 5 years old, so she is much older and a calm dog, she just sits around , but he constantly whines and we cant get him to stop. i guess what im wondering is if i get him neutered will this stop? |
