How do I let go of my Brody?

I did take her to a nephrologist and he thought he could help her but she had too low of a kidney function. He told me he had many yorkies in his practice that were doing fine on medicine and fluids. He said they could do well if they had 25% kidney function or more. Sadly, Dixie was at 17-19%. I don't know if you have tried a specialist but thought I would share my experience. So sorry to hear about your Dixie. We too have taken Brody to a specialist and also have had many opinions and they are all the same. He was born with JRD and so his kidneys are not developed the damage is very bad. Most puppies die at birth but Brody beat the odds and got to live a while longer. He has been on medicines and fliuds but at this point the vet feels nothing else can be done. So we are making him as comfortable as possible and trying our best to enjoy the time we have left with him.

I am sorry that you and Brody must go through this. I have always heard that if a dog won't eat, he is very sick. Brody may be suffering more than you realize and it might be best to take your vet's advice. If you let him go now you will have mostly happy memories of him and if he gets worse and suffers visibly you will always have those sad memories. Of course we must remember that vets deal with these situations all the time and have had to learn not to think about it in an emotional way, while we are all emotions when it comes to our beloved pets. Whether it is a young dog or an old dog, it is so difficult to deal with this issue, it is almost unbearable. But losing a beloved pet is part of having a pet, whether the loss is because of illness or accident. We all go through it sooner or later. I hope you will know when the time is right and that it will bring you peace.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my sweet Brody is gone. He went very peacefully and his suffering is finally over. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts you have helped me to get through a very difficult time. Brody will be forever in my heart.

Hi-

I am new to this post. Last week I had to put my 15 year old Maltese to sleep. She had a heart condition for 4 months. The last two months were prettty bad but she was eating and wagging her tail. It is just awful. The vet was very nice and said we went above and beyond. I keep seeing her in my house and when I go home, I feel like I need to take her out.

I hope to replace her with a male Yorkie but am not ready yet. Some of the fun is in looking. All I can say about losing a pet, is don't drag it out too long. We kept making excuses, Xmass etc. Its the right thing to do for the pet and you don't want to have memories of suffering.

Can anyone recommend a good breeder in So Cal. I want a good healthy dog, not too small.
