I didn't realize that she was to continue showing as part of the contract. This makes more sense on one hand. Yorkies are shown in the terrier group over there. But you still need coat. Hahaha. No harnesses for a some time. I'd find a good handler/breeder that is well respected in our breed & have them evaluate him. Have them give you some tips and find a local mentor. This forum will help you online. But there isn't any replacement for a local mentor. How far are you from the Cruffs Show? See if the forum has some contacts near you. Do you know how to do that? If not, we can get some members help. This would benefit you with area places to purchase the right grooming supplies and other things. Do you know how to find shows in your area? | |

I have a boy that I never wrapped until he was 2....gorgeous coat,....he had the run of the house. As a matter of fact I never did anything special with his coat, his topknot was about 16 inches long when I finally cut him down...........I began wrapping him when I thought of Specialing him, his coat coat was kept about an two inches past the ground & I was always have to trim it to keep it that length....he's the boy in my Avitar.....

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() You are so lucky to get a show dog on one CC, Just to say I loved showing when I got involved, its very exciting but extremly nerve wracking, I was terrified the first few times I went in the ring which obviously didn't help my dog. I'm sure you'll soon get the hang of it with the guidence of his original owner. He sounds really well trained, whats his show name? I still read the dog papers so I'll keep a look out for him. |

| ![]() Congratulations on your new boy!! How exciting! I have to say I agree with Gemy about the leads. When I put a show leash on I want my dogs to be on top of their game. To them, that leash means they keep their heads up and walk like they are worth a million bucks. In other words, when the lead is on its time to perform. When I take my boys out for walks I always use a harness over their wrapping jacket. This way they can walk, smell and play without developing any bad habits. They know the harness = time off, so to speak. My boys have always been pets first. In retrospect, it didnt work out as well as I would have liked it for my older boy--he wasnt food or toy motivated so when he went in the ring he had no drive to perform for me. To him, showing was more of a chore. For my 16month old its another story. He is such an attention hog and food/toy motivated to no end he loved showing and has been known to "make-out" with a few judges in his time! As for the beach, I say go for it! But if you are going to do it you might as well let them go all the way because you have a good washing/oiling/rewrapping in your future anyways!! May he always have sand-holes to dig ![]() |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() In the U'k it tends to be plain white though I dont suppose it matters solong as the colour doesn't run. You can get the paper over the net quite cheaply, just google acid free tissue paper, I got some through e-bay quite cheaply. I wish it had been around when I was showing as I had to go through another exhibitor. You can get the bands over the net too. Over here they're called crackers rather than wraps though, and you might want to look into putting booties on his feet to stop him scratching, though if he has a jacket it may not be neccessary. This really makes me miss my showing days. |
