| Update on Peanut Some of you may know I thought Peanut had a LP. Well I took him in to the Vet, and its not good news. The Vet said that he has a LP in BOTH LEGS!! My poor guy He said he is Grade 1-2. His right knee is worse than the left. He said that SX is not really an option right now.. Maybe down the road. He gave me some pain meds and he told me to continue to give him the Cosequin. He also wants me to start him on some Omega 3 and Omega 6. He said limit his jumping. Thats really it. What is this Omega 3 and Omega 6? He also said something about fish oil??? Not sure, I am going to Petco tomorrow to look for some Omega stuff. I also got Peanut some vitamins.. I feel so bad for my baby! I knew he had it, but I didnt know he had it in both knees!! Ergh what am I to do guys!!

| So sorry to hear the news. Omega 3 and Omega 6 are essential fatty acids found in fish oil. Some dog foods have them in the food already.

| Sorry to hear about your news. You'll get lots of moral support and suggestions to help keep your furbaby comfortable. I don't know how you could ever eliminate the jumping. Bella is always jumping up on the furniture to be with us. Good luck and hang in there! |

| My Great Pyrenees has it too. But he's also bow-legged so the surgery said unless we want to put his leg in braces (which requires them breaking the legs first) then surgery is not going to help. What has helped a lot is he get a glucosamine and a fish oil pill every day along with his exercise. We started slowly with a week of bed rest while the ligaments healed around his knee and then started him on short and slow walks. Then we just added more and more distance. Now he can run and jump and he's knee holds up, but when he gets overly excited and jumps while twisting around it will pop out. The vet showed us how to stretch and massage his leg so that it goes back in with out causing any force and pain. Hope that helps. So sorry that you and Pean are's going through this. (((((Hugs)))))

| Sorry to hear this... not sure what LP is ... it doesn't sound good though. I take Omega 3 it's a fish oil pill and is suppose to be good for circulation for adults also helps your heart. I'm sure it is the same for dogs.

| you may have this answer already, but a good source of Omega 3 and 6 is fish oil pills. you can pop them with a pin or tack and pour over his food, also some specialty dog stores have pump action salmon oil which is even better for him. i hope he gets well soon, that sounds awful. i'm here if u need to talk. | I am sorry about Peanut. I would try and give him supplements for joint health and get stairs or ramps for everywhere that he might jump. This will help limit him from needing to jump. Best of luck and let us know how he does.

| I am so sorry to hear about little Peanut. Sounds like the glucosamine and fish oil might make him feel better. I know it breaks your heart to hear something like that about your little guy. Good Luck and I hope Peanut starts to feel better soon with the meds.

| Thanks guys!! All your support means sooo much to me!! I knew I could find it here!! Yes I started him on the Cosequin( glucosamine) already, Now I just need to get him some Fish oil... We are going to Petco today! I thought he would like a new bully stick or a toy or something too!! Luckly Peanut is spoiled and he cant jump up on the couch, he will just sit there and wait for me to pick him up LOL! So at least he wont be jumping alot. The vet said I still need to walk him, but just like 15 mins... We cant do our long walks and we cant go rollerblading anymore I cant believe he has it in both legs! That breaks my heart. DH went with me, he was so cute he was asking all these questions too!! hehe Also the Vet gave me some pain meds... He said to give him the dosage for 2 weeks.. Then I can stop unless I see that he is in pain.. Well the problem with that is I am not sure when Peanut is hurting... Is it when he is limping? B/C He doesnt cry or wine or anything.. Just limp every so often.. What do you guys think on that?

| Grade 1 and 2 really isn't that bad. If you are careful about his jumping and it doesn't get any worse, he shouldn't need surgery. This is an excellent article on luxating patellas: Medial Luxating Patella I use EicosaDerm for fatty acids/omegas. I get it at Entirely Pets. Cosequin is much cheaper there, too. Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear about Peanuts LP. Cali has grade 4 in both legs but due to her not having any pain or limping and my vet not wanting to put her through surgery due to her MVD and other health issues we are just doing a wait and see approach. Cali is almost 5 and not having any apparent issues so I am hopeful she will not need surgery. We use ramps and stairs so she doesn't jump. Hopefully Peanut will not need surgery.
