| Not thrilled with Duke's first trip to groomer Duke went to his first grooming appointment today. I was less than thrilled and we won't be going back. She didn't really seem to know a whole lot about Yorkie cuts. They cut the hair on his face way to short. The pieces over his eyes were hanging way over making him look like a shaggy dog, but now they're so short. She wasn't able to get his ears tipped either, said he freaked out with the clippers. I guess better still floppy ears (which may have stayed that way anyway) than a dog with a cut. They didn't even give him a bow or bandana. Even my lab gets a bandana after a grooming. On a positive note he is very soft and they did take care of the little matts he had. Is their anyone one in the Rochester, NY area that could recommend a groomer? Here are a few pictures of Duke. They make him look bigger than his 7lbs though..lol

| Sorry that you didn't like your first experience. I went through 3 groomers and then the 4th one was the keeper. (Knock on wood.) I think Duke is absolutely adorable. See if you can find a place that will let you stay or bring in a picture that you like of another Yorkie's haircut. If they won't let you stay make sure you write out EXPLICIT directions and explain the directions to the groomer...not just the receptionist. Hugs to Duke!

| Aw he is such a sweet little guy. What a cutie!!! I remember my Coco's first haircut...THEY CUT OFF PART OF HIS EAR!!! After that horrible experience I hsve never brought him to another groomer. I just bought myself a clipper and I do him myself. I will never ever trust anyone with my babies. I have heard here that you could stay while they groom your baby in some places. I think these groomers have a hearing problem and don't understand TRIM!!!

| I think he still turned out cute. You may need to go through a few groomers before you find that perfect one but by then you migth just decide to give it a shot yourself

| He looks adorable! When I take Pixie to the groomers, I stay with her, at least until she is older.I only have the groomer do the basics trim ears toes and toe nails lil bum. Once Pixie and I are more comfortable I will let her get a full spa expierence. Maybe next time you can ask to stay until he is done and be more specific about what you want and offer to hold him when she trims his ears.

| Thanks everyone. I do think he looks adorable, but I am a bit biased Thank God they didn't actually cut him. I was worried about that with his ears. I will have to see next time about staying to help with the ears. This groomer doesn't like people to stay, she said the dogs tend to want their owners. That should have been my first clue. I just may get to the point of doing it myself. I just need to get a little more comfortable with the Yorkie cut. Yes as stated...."good thing is hair it grows back" I'm hoping like with our hair in a few weeks it will be better.

| I think he looks fine -- very handsome. I think the problem with both owners and groomers is they can't make up their mind whether they want their Yorkie to look like a show dog or just a cute pup. My neighbor took his Cairn to PetCo and you couldn't tell what breed it was anymore. He started out like Toto and came out with a tiny head and huge body. It's pretty hard to make a Yorkie look bad, they are just so damn cute. You can certainly make one look different, but bad? Probably not. Ruger hasn't been groomed yet, but I think I'll go for that Pit Bull look. Good luck next time. |

| No, no. When they're shaved down, yorkies look like miniature rottweilers.

| LOL..they do too. It's all that black with tan. Then of course as they get bigger they think they ARE rottweilers.
