Average weight of a YT puppy..

In looking at the breeder's site, they list 5-6 different breeds, none of which are Yorkies. On puppyfind, they have three more breeds listed. Those are HUGE red flags! Also they use APRI registry, which I believe is what a lot of commercial breeders use.

Well, I will love him dearly no matter what he weighs. I am just confused because his parents are only 7 lbs. I guess there is no way for me to tell his size until I get him and watch him grow. I did have my heart set on a Yorkie I could take with me everywhere.

I prefer bigger Yorkies honestly! I thought I wanted a smaller one, but I can't imagine my 12lb boy being any smaller. He's perfect in every way... very durable, you can rough house, he jumps off/on furniture fine, he runs and plays with dogs of all shapes and sizes, it's less stress. I wish they would raise the standard or have different sizes. Sure, I'm not gonna be carrying him in a purse (but that was never my motive anyways) but he goes literally everywhere with me that he can. His parents were 8 and 9lbs and he surpassed them.

I am happy for you! It's so exciting getting a new yorkie puppy. You could still take Bentley just about anywhere you would take a smaller one unless you wanted to put him in a purse and even then you are fairly limited (around here anyway) in the places you can bring a dog in to. He will still be a small dog as dogs go. Be sure and post when he's home with you. Friday is just around the corner

Hes gonna be a bigger yorkie. I have one thats 11 lbs and Im glad hes bigger. He can jump off the couch and bed and I dont worry about him breaking a leg. He is just alot more durable than my other 6 lb yorkie. Im sure you will love him no matter his size.

It's buyer's beware when buying a puppy on Puppyfind. Most of the breeders are puppymills and backyard breeders. Lots of the pictures posted there are stolen.

You are right about the APRI. It states on its webpage that its purpose is to support the "professional pet industry" which is a fancy term for puppy mills and pet stores.

That's what I thought! I looked since the breeder seemed unsure of the size of the puppy and when I saw the different breeds and registry, it jumped out at me! I hope the puppy will be ok, it looks like most of the puppies are $300-500+ including shipping and the breeder resides in one of the largest puppy mill states.

Yes, D&H Kennels in Missouri is on the USDA "puppymill" list under the owners' name, Dwayne Pettingill.

According to the AKC website, breed standard is 4-7 pounds. Now of course they can come much smaller, and sometimes larger. Your breeder should be able to show you pics of the sire (dad) and dame (mom) and let you know their specifications as well. If they are not up front with all of their information, I would find another breeder. Any reputable breeder should have a scale on hand to be able to weigh their pups, as size and weight is a general question that all potential buyers will ask about. As other posters have said as well, it sounds like your pup will probably be 10+ pounds, so if you want a small pup, this is not the way to go.

I kno that by adulthood, the YT weighs up to 7 lbs..but I am not sure about puppies.

wow! that seems big and 4 or 5 the 1 lb inbetween is alot mine has only gained 1 lb in 8 weeks that is why i say that is alot
if your baby is 9 weeks and that size he going to be a big yorkie

It is hard to go by parents weight, my Sophie is 6 lbs 3 oz..... mom was 4.5 lbs and dad was 3 lbs...... I like her size and am glad she didn't turn out as small as her parents.

OH NO!!! I have no idea what to do if he is from a puppy mill. I have already paid in full for him. I was so sure this breeder was honest, I have looked at reviews from other buyers and everything. I'm completely clueless. I want Bentley to be okay
