| You got her a what??? Ok so my best friend just dropped off my daughter from her daughters birthday sleepover. She then tels me what she got her daughter as a gift......a toy poodle A toy poodle! After she vowed that she wouldnt get another dog ever!(Her shih tzu died this year) Even after I got my furbabies, she was in love but said nope...no more dogs. She broke down and bought the cutest lil toy poodle ever. She looks like a little lamb. Anyway, I had to playfully mess with her about not choosing a yorkie instead! (with a hint of truth ) The Point: I did tell her that I heard poodles were hard to train though and she said she researched it and she found that they were easy to train. Am I wrong? Maybe what I read that they arent as easy to train when compared to a Yorkie. Anyone know? Last edited by 3PawsomeYorkies; 12-20-2009 at 01:07 PM. |

| I grew up with toy poodles before I moved out on my own and converted to yorkies poodles are MUCH EASIER to train... poodles are one of the easier breeds to train overall... i often recommend them to first time owners due to their ease. |

| This was the experience that I had with my toy poodle. She was smart as a whip, and extremely well behaved.

| hmmm I dont know what gave me that impression....I think I read a thread about a mxed maltese and poodle or something and they said something about the poodle part of the dog. Who knows....doesnt matter that toy poodle is just soooo precious! No offense to poodle owners....i was obviously misinformed! Thanks for setting me straight guys! |

| Poodles are definitely easy to train! I had a yorkie poo that was the best pup EVER about doing her business outside. I found her in a shelter in 1985. She was a sweetie! And, we all know it was not the Yorkie in her that made her that way.

| I've had 4 mini poodles through the years and each one of them was a piece a cake to train. They were very smart and laid back and were a joy to own. After the last one crossed the rainbow bridge at 15 I decided to try a different breed. I decided on a Yorkie and now I'll never own any other breed. I love everything about Yorkies and even though they are definately harder to housebreak I think they are just as smart as poodles but have alot more personality.

Several years ago a friend of mine has a standard poodle named Fabio. That dog was so smart it was scary! Such a neat big guy he was. | |

| Poodles are easy to train and so smart!! I love them. I have a yorkiepoo named Trixie and I always say she gets her intelligence from the poodle in her. She was very easy to train and one of the smartest in the house, she picks up things very quickly.

We have a border collie mix (not sure what she is mixed with though). While she can be stubborn she has always learned new tricks very quickly and recognizes words that the others don't. Who knew?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'm agreeing with many others here about poodles being smart and easy to train. We have four toy dogs, two yorkies, and two fosters that came here and never left, one is a Papillon, the other is a poodle. Of the four dogs, Louis, the poodle is by far the most intelligent when it came to house training. He practically trained himself. He's also the easiest to groom, even when it comes to shaving his face, he stays perfectly still for me.
