tell him they forgot to put the puppy in the Coach purse! :p Seriously, after I had the okay to get the puppy, and we had him for a week, DH said "it's too much, give him back!" I was heart broken. I tended to all of Gunnar's needs as I told DH I would in the beginning etc. I used my small inheritance money. DH was freaked out about the potting training even though Gunnar was doing really well. It was a tense couple of weeks. I did contact the breeder and she put him up on her site for sale for me. I didn't tell DH. Our son who lives here and in college, helped me with Gunnar when I was at work. Finally DH gave in and said that he saw how well Gunnar was doing in training and how happy he made me so, we could keep him. I finally told him that I did have him for sale and showed him the web-site. Now DH calls him "Daddy's boy". I started hinting for another one but that's a solid NO! Only you know how hard to push! :D Donna |
Let him come around. Some of these responses are hilarious! Asking a year in advance...! I LOVE IT! I would not go behind his back and get a dog though, because that's just not right. There has be a mutual respect there. It's funny to hear these stories because in order for us to get Derby it took my husband a long time with me too! Except I'm the girl! I should have wanted Derby right? I was a cat person through and through, and I did not like dogs. I have scars on my hand from a dog bite that pretty much scared me away from dogs for the rest of my life! I had (big) dogs when I was younger and lived with my parents, but as a teenager I couldn't stand them eating my underwear to shreds, and always wanting my attention, having to clean up their mess from tearing the garbage apart etc. I couldn't handle it. But then I saw these cute little puffballs (pomerian) all walking with their owner. There had to be like 5 or 6 or them! I fell in love! I thought, omg how CUTE! They are so small! so cute! I told my husband right then and there: "IF!!! we get a dog, I want a small cute one like those guys..." He said: "Does it have to be one of those? or can we look at small dog breeds...(aka a Yorkie!)." No word of a lie, he showed up with Derby one week before our wedding! and within a week of having that discussion. Now I want another one, but he says NO. I'll get my way.... when we have more space I guess. I just love Derby and Yorkies so much that I want another one! I surprised everyone with this. Most people are like "you have a dog? really?" People come around in their own time! sorry, long story.... |
I bugged my boyfriend for over a year before he agreed to let me get our second yorkie. Now he is obsessed with her and wants another puppy and I am the one saying no haha. PERSISTENCY WORKS :) but there is nothing worse than an angry husband.... so just keep bugging him nicely hehe. |

because after all that (see above) guess who was the was cleaning up Derby's sickness (both ways!) when he was sick and was up with him ALL NIGHT from the anesthesia from getting neutered! ME! Who cared about washing his bed right away, and having it cleaned and ready for him ASAP? ME! I fell in love dogs because of Derby. Please bless me with another! Dear SANTA!!! |

We live in a very tiny apartment in LA.... so I feel you there, but please--- you do not need space- they just follow underneath your feet all day anyways! Annnnnd when you have human babies they will get jealous, but atleast they will ahve eachother to play with when you are busy with the baby! Haha--- just have your hubby give me a call-- I will convince him for ya! do it do it! |
We have 2 german shepherds and as much as I love them I have always wanted a yorkie. I searched for many months about them and my husband kept saying just get one. but i wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do & I wasn't going to go into it lightly. I eventually got my yorkie 2 weeks ago and am so happy. He plays with the german shepherds and sometimes the 17weeks one forgets herself but a firm 'leave' seems to work. I told my hubby that I would do everything for the yorkie but who is it that plays with him most of the time and can't stop cuddling him, yep my husband. I would say sit down over a cup of tea (or coffee as you do in the States) and tell him how much it would mean to you to have the dog, that you will do everything for the dog, just as you do for the 2 you already have. 3 small dogs will be a doddle. Alfie hasn't had his 2nd injection yet, having it on monday, so he will be able to go out for a walk a week after that. Now that will be interesting. I think I will have to walk the big dogs (Scooter and Layla) separately from Alfie. He can stay with hubby of hubby can walk the big dogs. I do most things for the dogs, hubby is a policeman so works all different times. Tell your husband that a yorkie is a dear sweet little dog that after buying and vet fees will cost next to nothing to keep. I wish you luck x |
I have not met any man yet that these little doggies can not turn into "MUSH" So get your puppy, I promise you that in no time at all she will wrap DH around her little paw. ;) |
I have a question, how is he with the two you already have?, and how did you come about #2 and how was that process??? |

Yeah! Find out what HE realy really wants! |
Don't get your baby until DH is totally in agreement. You don't want to feel that each time he sees your yorkie that he is seething. We had outside dogs that were family pets, but no lapdog for me. I begged DH for 27 years before he let me get Bonnie. He did not think dogs belong in the house (still doesn't) but he got over it because it was his decision to let me finally get my pup. I am liking the suggestions that you find out what he wants and trade:D |
