Hey Misty, time to pull it out of storage again.

But, on a serious note, it's my understanding that Teacups only come with handles and saucers......no a Teaspoon, I would think looks like a spoon.

Standard for yorkies is anything under 7 lbs. Just b/c they are less than 3 lbs doesn't make them teacup, not officially, anyway.
i agree the price is crazy and yes there are breeders selling 8 week old puppies as a teacup and its messed up. so many bad people out there but yorkies used to weigh about thirty pounds way back in the day and as the need for working dogs decreased, the demand for small dogs increased so The Yorkshire Terrier became increasingly smaller and smaller. so people back then were breeding small dogs with small dogs to get small dogs like people are doing today. Just one hundred years after the original breeder of yorkies died the breed standard listed the weight of a Yorkie to be "no more than seven pounds". now in are time The current trend is to breed them even smaller. Who knows how small the Yorkshire Terrier will be by 2065? teacup, micro teacup ,teaspoon are ways people describe their size and i think the reason they are so expensive is first people are willing to pay it and second breeding such a small dog is risky the female probably had a lot of health care throughout the pregnancy and maybe even had to of had a c section and then to top that off they don't even have that many puppies like 1-3 so that all affects the price of the small dog everyone wants. but yorkies came a long way and getting a yorkie down from 30 to 7 pounds is crazy so i guess its crazy to want to make them even smaller. but its been done and its now a new era of even wanting a smaller dog. all breeds are going to change with time and there will be new breeds to come. like the so called designer breeds akc will begin to recognize some of them in time.

You have just renewed my faith in this whole board! My whole deal was that I got scared that maybe I had just purchased (at a hefty price) a sickly dog (who isn't sick right now) and had committed some cardinal sin by purchacing her. I really don't care what people call the little dogs, I wanted a small dog, got slammed for that, I had no clue what the difference between AKA and ACA was and mistakenly defended the ACA....got slammed for that too....my concern was that I may have been scammed but I wasn't. However, I did not know some of the questions I should have asked. I didn't know I was suppose to get a look at the Mom and dad....never saw where the pups lived but the ladies house was amazing....she had a lot more money than I did and I work cuz I want to and I like what I do....not sure but I think I was getting pushed a little on that one too....no matter...I was leaving this board until I read your post.

You get it!!!! You said what some of us are feeling....maybe we bought a dog that was not AKA or the right size....but we love our little babies just as much as the rest of them do.....so Thank you...Inabowbina....for your kindness and understanding!!! Now I can tell my other yorkie friends about this board...I was sent to test the waters....and now I know who to put on ignore....funny.....our money is just as green as theirs too....

All the require is payment and you get your papers. Same thing with APRI, and I'm sure there's others I am forgetting. yes, ACA has been around for a long time, but it is b/c along time ago, certain breeders were not up to par according to the AKC so they formed their OWN registry. That is basically like, if I get kicked out of a mother club, I decide I just make my own, and make my own rules, or lack thereof. Just b/c I am around for a while doesn't make me credible, understand? The amount of breeders that have been kicked out of AKC keeps growing and growing, and where do they register their dogs? Places like ACA.

Lots of us on here have dogs that are not AKC. But it is important to understand not to support these other registeries b/c it is confusing to the unaware public, who thinks papers are papers.

Just for the heck of it, I went back and re-read everything on here since Inabowbina posted her very kind post. I see where you were trying to be informative and very respectful. I appreciate that very much. I think I may have gotten off on the wrong foot with some of the posters on here. I did not mean to offend anyone but I felt like I was being judged from the get go. I have decided NOT to send the ACA any money. I would not want to be connected to any organization who is up to no good. You are right, there are a lot of folks like me who don't know any better....we just wanted a small dog to love...and that is what we have. So thank you for your post....I hope we have some very nice chats....

The current trend of reputable responsible breeders is not to breed them smaller, but healthier. Granted those that are breeding to fulfill a pet market will breed to supply the buyers market, there will always be those types of breeders. However, people are becoming more and more educated on how to find a reputable responsible breeder that they can obtain a healthy, good representation of the breed.

In yorkshire terrier breeding small dogs to small dogs does not produce small dogs.....Inbreeding does.
