| People always ask me that same question about Rio. I usually don't try to explain to them that there is no such thing as a teacup Yorkie. Maybe I should in the future, just to try educate those who just don't know... |

| Hmmm, Pardon my ignorance but could someone explain why the supposedly teacup (since AKC do not recognised these terms) can be registered under AKC? |

| YT Addict | 4 grand is ridiculous i have a little boy that is 2lb and did not pay that. but He is the healthiest dog i have ever had in my whole life they are not all sickly. through my own experiences with my dogs the bigger my dog was the sicker they were guess i its backward with me. i had a bull dog, boxer and a pit bull they all had crazy vet bills but not my little guy only seen the vet twice for his shots and when he cut his poor paw on the fence playing with the big dog next door but that's it. why do people get so mad when people call dogs teacups. i mean i get the "its a runt thing" but are dogs not all runts somewhere in the line of breeding if they all came from wolves. and not all runts are unhealthy breed a healthy one with another healthy one and guess that's how small chihuahuas came about .i would call my little guy a micro teacup he is not a standard yorkie that's for sure and my girls are 3 lb guess people call them teacups then there are standard yorkies that are like 4-7 lb right then big yorkies anything over 7 i think the akc standard is idk. just my thought |

Yorkie can be a purebred, just as a bigger Yorkie can be. However that does not mean they are the "Standard".Here is a link to the American Yorkshire Terrier breed standard American Kennel Club - Yorkshire Terrier Hope this helps

Standard for yorkies is anything under 7 lbs. Just b/c they are less than 3 lbs doesn't make them teacup, not officially, anyway.

| I just don't understand why they ask such ridiculous prices for tinier yorkies, and I guess more ridiculous is why people pay it, I think it's nerve wracking having a tiny yorkie myself! Bailey is 3.5 lbs now, but when he was under 3 lbs, I was constantly stressed that he would get hurt, why people think the tinier the better is beyond me

I would think next would be ... demitasse?? It amazes me when I read descriptions of Yorkies for sale ... if people would only do the math. We got Toto when she was 16 weeks and a whopping 1.5 lbs ... she barely tipped the scales at 2 lbs when she was 8 months and was spayed. When she was fully grown she weighed a sturdy 5 lbs and remained about that weight. At one point in her six years, she did tip the scales a little over 6 lbs because we fed her too much and the extra weight caused 5 of her little ribs to separate. At no point in her life have we ever considered her to be a teacup although people are constantly referring to her as one. She is disgustingly healthy and if it wouldn't endanger her health, we wouldn't care if she weighed 25 lbs! I simply cannot understand the obsession of having tinier & tinier Yorkies ... especially breeders [so called] who advertise them as such. I would hope that someday breeders would only breed for healthier & healthier Yorkies rather than those who bring big bucks and can be carried in your pocket!!

| Okay people, I am so confused!!! I bought a Yorkie this September and was told she was a teacup Yorkie. I was told that she would remain small like as in three pounds. I wanted soemthing to put in my hip pocket and carry around the house with me. The breeder told me that Jazzi was twelve weeks old and I have had her for two months now so the age should be right. Now I am wondering something else....have I been scammed? I love this little dog and she is healthy as can be. She eats very well and she can out poop my husband!!!! She is registered with the American Canine Association....what is the difference between the two...AKA...and ACA????Did I get ripped off by a shady breeder???? |
