| My cat Avery is 12 years old and my Yorkie SophieKate is 1.5 years old. Avery and Sophie Kate get along great in fact when Sophie Kate got her shots this year she was in a lot of pain, the only comfort she found was snuggling on the bed with Avery for about 24 hours. Avery my cat is just a big old sweetheart and one of my first loves (I raised him when his Mom rejected him). Sophie Kate gets a little rough with him sometimes and he will haul off and smack her, keeps everything in balance (well if you can overlook drama queen Sophie Kate howling like a baby when there isn't a scratch on her).

| My mind has been made up (thanks to my reliable YT friends) I will NOT be getting a cat. I have never been a cat person, but I think everyone is a KITTEN person Just like everyone LOVES puppies. I have always longed for a doggie since I was 8 yrs old and finally after I got married, my babe of a husband and I got Snick. Now I want more!! The other day I had 3 dogs in my house and it was amazing. To bad all our parents want human babies, not more furry babies In time I tell them, in time. I kinda think that having 2 dogs when we do finally have a baby will be better in the long run. They will have each other and they perhaps won't have issues (jealousy) with the baby then?? Just a thought. I'm kinda freaked out about litter boxes as well...kinda stinky!! ![]() Thanks everyone...it's been enlightning for sure!! Huggies- Snick & Viv

| Motley is about 18 months old and we brought Rowdy(4 month old kitten) home about 2 weeks ago. I will say the first night was a long one. Motley is a barker and I think he barked about 6 hours straight. Now they get along just fine and play together all day long. I waited to bring Rowdy home until he was a little bigger because Motley likes to play rough(he's about 6.5 pounds) now they are about the same size so I don't worry about them hurting each other as much. |

| Toby's arch enemy is Bo the stray cat we took in. He absolutley doesn't like him. The cat stays outside so it's not a problem. Maybe if you got a puppie and kitten at the same time that could grow up togther it would'nt be an issue.I don't recommend introducing a kitten or espically a grown cat an adult yorkie.

| I hope your not getting one now because of Lilmissys post about the preditory cat. She has a young pup and you should keep them separate from cats or adult dogs. Neither of my cats have ever acted preditorial around my yorkies and if they did they would lose that battle. The only time I have even seen that side of Mittens is when she is trying to catch a mouse

| No, I mainly decided not to get the kitty b/c of the numerous stories I've heard on here as well as from friends how their dogs and cats don't get along. I think it is a good choice for me. Even though I know Snick would love the kitty, I'm not sure if the kitty would ever love Snick. Can't take that chance. At least I have a pretty good assurance if I got another Yorkie or tpy breed dog, it would most likely end up that they are buddies even if in the beginning we have a transition period. Thanks again to everyone and keep it going if anyone else is thinking of getting a kitty. Holiday Huggies- Snick & Viv

Another thing, as sweet and cuddly as this cat is, she's definitely a hunter. My friend has had alot of cats in her lifetime, and she said this kitty is "the toughest hunter out of all the cats she's had", and "she's stronger than her 2 X 20 lb male cats". She could tell this just by the way she plays. I really think that every cat and dog is different. I'm sure that Yorkies and cats can co-exist just fine, it just didn't work out well in my house. Judging by the pics on this thread though, it is definitely doable.

| I have 1 19 month old Yorkie and a 7 year old cat and they are the best of buddies.... They play together all the time. I catch them sleeping together, laying in the sun together all the time. They have gotten along since day one. |

| my aunt has a cat the same age and size as Pann and they are best friends lol. we go over there for play dates and they both love it! it's hilarious to watch, Pann's so careful not to use his teeth but still play rough at the same time, and that' all on his own with no guidance from me! |

| Diva HATES our cat Cali. She tells on her all the time, trying to get her in trouble. LOL Cali is the same age as Diva, but they have never been buddies. Cali torments Diva for fun and Diva tries her best to tattle on everything the cat does. It's really funny some days. They don't fight, but they definitely are not and will not be 'cuddle buddies!' |

| YT Addict | Theres actually a few things you can do to be able to see how your dog might react to a cat or kitten. Firstly there are some shelters that will allow you to bring your dog around a cat or kitten that you are interested in rescuing to see if they will get along or not. Others will allow you an overnight, to be able to bring the cat or kitten (or dog in other situations) back if anything is not right i.e. aggression towards other animals in the house, etc. I have 3 cats, all of which are adults. 9+ in age. 2 from the same litter a boy and a girl tabby that are my moms, and then the third is actually mine is a grey and pink calico. She does not get along with the female tabby, but they live somewhat peacefully in the same house and have for the past 3 or 4 years. Now about my little yorkie, well she is 7 years old I adopted her about 1 month ago now, and she had been around cats at her previous home but MY cats had NOT been around dogs (my calico was around dogs when I first adopted her for about a year but not since then and probably doesnt remember). None of the cats care, they just sort of pass her by. They don't hiss at her or get mad, they just don't want to play with her. And my yorkie doesn't seem to mind them or really care to play with them either. As far as litter boxes that's all on the owners part on how bad it smells. I don't have stinky boxes ever, but that's because we keep them clean and I'd hate to have someone walk into the house and smell cat junk. Honestly using the poo scoop to clean litter seems better than using bags to pick up fresh warm poo off the ground from my yorkie since litter is usually scented, but that's just me! Anyway, it's all dependant on what you like or don't. There are bad stories everywhere but it is only one SMALL fraction of the experiences of the world with people having cats and dogs in the same house. I don't think I know one person in real life that has both cats and dogs (and that's a lot! almost everyone I know has both) and had bad experiences. If the dogs and cats don't play together they just leave each other alone. It's all situational and also I do believe some of it has to do with how you actually introduce the animals, too.

| Even though you have made up your mind... I thought I would still share my story with you I got two kittens from the shelter together when they were realllly young. The one fit in the palm of my hand. They were about 5-6 months old when I brought Couver home at 4 months. They have been best buds since. They chase eachother and play like they are of the same species. The one cat will lie on his back and lightly paw at Couver. I have never heard any of them get upset with eachother in any way. They are great with eachother. I think the cats have been great for Couver. He does not chase strange cats he sees because he sees them as friends. He has been socialized around animals of all shapes and sizes, and this has been great for him. We go over to my mother-in-laws (she has 5 cats and 2 large dogs) and he does great. The cats are no big deal to him, because he has two kitty brothers at home. The only complaint I have are the litter boxes. Because I do not believe in allowing cats to roam outside... I have to clean up the litter box a lot. Even though this is tedious, I would not change it for anything. The cats have been an awesome addition to our family, and we love them just as much as we love Couver Here are some pictures of the boys: 1. NOT posed. They do this all the time. 2. Literally the morning after we brought Couver home... The cats were lying on the bed, and Couver came up and snuggled between them... like he belonged there all along. 3. Playing under the cat tree.
