| We live in a country area and have had hawks come so low over us that we can hear their wings flap. We never let Daisy out alone and we keep next to her when we walk her.

| Once I was driving and saw a hawk swoop down on a rabbit and carry it away in its claws. The rabbit was wiggling and squealing, it was terrible. I have seen a hawk in my backyard, but if I even move the curtain to get a better look he flies away (I guess that's where the expression "eyes like a hawk" comes from). I can't imagine that the hawk would get my dog (she's 8.2 lbs, he might have trouble picking her up) when I am in the yard, but I guess it's possible. I remember hearing that Jessica Simpson's little dog was drug away by a coyote right in front of her eyes this past summer. We also have a hoot owl I hear sometimes at night but of course I have never seen it. And I also hear coyotes at night but not real close to the house. It is really hard to go outside with my dog these cold nights, sometimes I watch from the door, but I think I need to be more diligent. I sure wish she would just use the paper, but she prefers to go out. And when she goes out she plays around most of the time. |

| One of the members on here lost her dog to a coyote 3 months ago and she was outside with him. She recently got a new baby girl and is getting a new baby boy.

| Always bundle up, too, when my doggies go out. Even slip some larger sweatpants over my dress clothes to stay warm. Have had some close calls with hawks. One just lately. Neighborhood dogs have gotten loose causing some tense moments. Have two Akitas across the street. Dh thinks I should carry a shovel at all times to ward off danger. Haven't gone that far. ~Joanne~

| There were 6 bald eagles that I spotted on the way to my daughter's school, and at least that many hawks. Her school is only 2 miles from our house. It is unnerving when I take them out in the morning and can hear the big birds screeching.

| This pic was taken this morning as I was letting Harley out one more time before going to work.. I heard their wings flap and when I looked up, there were 4 right over my front yard! I immediately picked Harley up and took her in. But it scared her because she knew I was scared....once she was calm I went back outside and they were perched in a tree across the street. You can only see 2 in the pic, but this was taken from my driveway so imagine how BIG they would be on the ground. It makes me feel like they've been watching her and know her routine. So scary, she will be on the leash from now on!

| I have previously mentioned this on similar threads but it is worth repeating. To ward off predatory birds place several large mirrored gazing balls in different spots in your yard. Most birds are territorial and if the see their rflection they will think they are on another predators turf and will look for new territory. I've tried it and it works.

| These little one's that have been taken, does anyone know if they were on leashes ? If not, do you think the birds can tell if they are or not, easy prey? I live very near to woods and I've always worried about predators especially as my little guy has no teeth at all, so no way of protecting himself but I've never really thought about birds before now. | That's such a sad thing to hear!!!! I hope that lil baby is found safe and sound. It is a good reminder for the rest of us to watch our babies closely when we bring them out!!!

| that is awful. We have lots of wild life here-eagles, turkey buzzards, hawks, owls and deer. The other night we were sitting in our kitchen and hubby heard an owl. I know one sits on our rooftop.
