Default Prayers for Cookie's safe return

Gen,

I just read this post and have been sitting here with tears running down my face. How devastating! I can't imagine how painful this has been for you, but want you to know that prayers and best wishes are being sent to you. Never give up hope. We lost a family heirloom that caused us to lose sleep, cry rivers of tears, and lots of heartache. We put up flyers with our heartfelt sentiments and offered a NO questions asked Reward. After several months, we got a call. It was a neighbor who returned it (with an explanation) and we gave the reward happily. It was such a happy day for us. I am just hoping that you have that happy day soon too!

Another thought; maybe you can contact your local news stations with this story. They love a good tearjerker story and this is surely one of them. I have seen many stories on our news here about lost dogs. Newsrooms say they get tons of emails, phone calls and reaction from those storylines. Email them explaining how much heartache his disappearance has caused you and your family and how much he means to you. Also say that you want to warn people of the dangers of maybe a dog snatcher in the area. Explain that he has liver problems and is prone to seizures which can happen at any given time, leading to him losing his life, and at the very least, having to go to the Vet ER. Send them lots of photos too. You never know, maybe someone somewhere will see this and report the person, or the person who has Cookie may get so worried that all the exposure will be too much and turn him in. It's worth a shot? Keep Cookie's face out there. Don't give up, miracles do happen!
Hoping and wishing for his safe return and a happy reunion soon!
prayers,
Bella

Missing sick Yorkie, woman desperately searching in St Lucie West TCPalm.com (User story from Gennel)

There is another article but I don't have a link to that.

It's not often that you can make a friend over the internet, but I think I can say Genie has become a friend. She's stronger than many of us could be and she has it where it counts-- patience, and that's the one thing she needs to have right now.

Gen, I know you've gotten your story published before, but YorkieLvr makes a good point, and I think the "possible dog snatcher out there" has good reader appeal.

There are lots of weekly newspapers in small communities, and you never know when an editor will have a hole to fill in his or her publication. Daily papers also have holes to fill and their readers would also be interested in a possible dog snatcher (and there is evidence that would support this idea). And that gives me another idea: a human interest story about how the disappearance of your dog led to helping others reunite with their lost pets. Your story prompted me to get my Yorkie puppy microchipped.

The photos are a great addition as well. Once a month you can send an update, including one about how you were finally reunited with Cookie.

Here's a link to a list of Florida papers: Florida Newspapers.

Freelance writers and artists self-syndicate--or attempt to--by sending their articles, cartoons, etc. en masse to every publication they think might print it. You can slant it toward a particular community or for papers or statewide.

I'm a freelance writer and editor and would be willing to help you free of charge. My heart goes out to you, Gen, as does the heart of so many others on this board and elsewhere. You're not alone.

She's had some rather raw responses to her ads in craigslist, including one that basically said "Forget him and move on". That one is high on the suspect list.

I have 2 yorkies, 1 maltese and a maltese/ yorkie mix. My oldest is Cookie
he is 5 yrs old and my love. I have a very safe gated backyard. Plus we even took the precaution to add additional metal xpen gates on each side so I can see them just in the back area. I let them out to pee, run around for a while. Today I let them out for about 1 hr and I noticed that only 3 dogs were by the sliding door. I rushed outside and started calling him...he was gone. All the gates were in place. If he did find a way out, 1 or more of the other dogs would have followed. I fear that someone took him. I already contacted AVID and notified them that he is missing. Everything is closed today .
I printed flyers and several were up within 1 hr. I still dont want to think he is gone. I am just numb with fear of thinking if he did run out, that he is dead. He is LITTLE maybe 4 lbs at the most. I live in Port Saint Lucie , FLorida

Here is 1 of hundreds of his pictures
I pray, pray pray and beg God that someone found him and has a heart to call or take him to a shelter.

A few months ago I found a dog on our porch. For some reason I went to craiglist and posted that I found this dog. Within 2 hrs the owner saw the ad and also had placed an ad before looking for her dog. The dog was about 12 miles away from his home. They told her to list this in Craiglist ,even if it was a slim chance but someone might see it. I hope someone sees my ad and calls me.

He sleeps with me right next to my stomach or back. He wont sleep anywhere and will scratch and beg to sleep with me. When I'm out of the house , he lays down by the door until I return. He is that attached to me. I am not going to sleep.I just had coffee and I cant think straight.

Please pray that he is at least in a safe place and not running scared in the streets. We do NOT have lots of streets here. Just lots of trees and bushes and ..I dont want to think anymore

Jen, I just feel so for you. I have not given up hope either. You know your dog, Did any 1 vet know him very well. You have done so much and things I would not have thought to do... But my mind keeps going back to this, whoever has your dog knows nothing of his past and regardless of why or how he has him, he wants that dog!!. He does not love him and never will like you but they will be treating it just like we would when we get a new puppy. And the number one place is the vet. I would find some way to get the word out to all the vets in your area. Do you have a college that schools vets? Like our UC Davis here in Ca, I think that may be a place to contact. They may have suggestions the best way to get the word out to all vets in Fla. And I would do it all. I would go for Ga, Ala, etc, etc. So all vets have not only a pic for any new Yorkie's who visit him but any marks, behaviors, moles, & joints,. Just anything that would distinuish Cookie from another dog. I have this feeling, and then God forgive also is there places there that use animals for testing their product. I think it is not as prevalent as it was years ago (I hope and pray)not so. Jessie and POOHBEAR

JEN, I just thought of this paper "Kijiji" in LA sort of like craigslist. It has other places they are in . I don;t know if in your area but we need to look at the past since Cookie went missing and find out how many Yorkies are in there" for sale". Especially pics to see if it is Cookie. It is kijiji. I will try to find some time to check it out later. Did not want to forget while fresh. Jessie (THEY have many animals) birds etc for adoption and everyother thing. Many animals.....

gigi, Good thoughts, all of them. Much of this has been done, plus. This has been probably one of the most intense searches ever seen for a 4lb little dog.

Default happy reunions do happen

I told a few friends and relatives about Cookie because we all love our furkids, and my cousin who works in the movie business and lives in LA, called to tell me that Sandra Bullocks husband Jessie James' dog went missing too. He put flyers up everywhere and of course was on their news pleading for help. He said in an interview that he would kick someone's a** if they stole his dog and he would find them! . The dog went missing on Jan. 26th, 2010 and some lady called them the other day and said she saw the flyers around and realized she has his dog. Maybe the pressure of seeing the flyers and being "found out" got her, and she turned the dog in? IDK, but such a happy ending! Wanted to send this along to hopefully keep your spirits high and let you know that many prayers are being said for Cookie's return.

I have not posted in a few days and sometimes that does me some good.
Trust me I think I have done just about everything suggested. I still post on craigslist and will continue to do so till the cows come home.
I post at least 1-2 times a week there. I am feel like I am doing much, much better. However my brain and body dont think so. I no longer have nails and have honestly gained like 18 lbs since he went missing. I miss him every single day and its very difficult to not think about him. Especially every time I step out of the shower, Monica is right there anxiously waiting to lick my ankles dry.
This is something that Cookie did every single day.None of our other dogs ever do that. So you could imagine me stepping out of the shower and wiping my face and feel that my ankles are being licked? For a second I think it's Cookie. She has been absolutely amazing but she will NEVER replace my first baby and that's Cookie. I'm starting to get busy with decorating halls. It's draining work but it's bringing in some very needed income for now.

I don't want anyone to think that I've just left YT. I still sign in and read posts but I have to remove myself from the website. I just jump from thread and I start to feel sad. Sometimes I read about a yorkie's birthday and I just start to hurt thinking about Cookie's birthday next month.
3 Weeks ago I did something I thought I would NEVER do in a million years.
I got a heart shaped tattoo with a blue paw print inside of it. You cant see it unless my hair is in a ponytail. I showed my mom and I was afraid to because she's so against stuff like that. When she saw it she just caressed the back of my neck and told me it was beautiful. She didnt need any explanation, she just knew. ANyone that sees it just nods their head like "I know thats for your baby" It HURT A LOT. But I started think of being angry and frustrated that someone just refuses to do the right thing and the pain of the burning needle disappeared.

I ♥ your tattoo. It is perfect Very nicely done.

I can completely understand how you must feel, and don't blame you for not posting every single day. I come and read your thread all the time, sometimes a couple of times a day, but I don't always post. I do however keep Cookie in my thoughts and prayers each and every day. The other day I even went back to the very beginning of this thread and read it from the start, just to refresh my memory. It is heartbreaking. I feel so sad for you and what you've gone through, and what you continue to go through. Whether you come back to this thread regularly or not, we will all still be here hoping and praying that Cookie is home soon.
