| Miley won't sit still I'm new to small dogs and yorkies. We've had Miley for only 6 days so I really have no idea what I am doing, but I'm reading everything I can and trying to do things right. So here's my problem. I want to clean all the gunk from under her eyes but she freaks out when I try. I bathed her the first day we got her home and she did ok, but I'm sure there is an easier way to do it. I would love suggestions about how to bath her and clean her eyes. Maybe there is a good way to hold her? Bathtub or sink? I know this is terrible but I haven't brushed her teeth yet because I don't know how to go about it! I would love your advice and tips!!!! |

| If she is squirmy while your trying to do it hold her in a towel with one arm and clean her with the other. I bathe mine in the kitchen sink. I just think I have more control that way

| I agree, I also bathe mine in the kitchen sink. It also saves my back. It is easier if you hold them in a towel. Also I try when they are good and tired. I get less of a fight. Like if they are sleeping on my lap. Good luck and Congratulations on your new baby. I just got my 4th on Halloween.

| Congratulations on your new girl! I bathe Galahad in the kitchen sink as well, lol. It's just so much easier on my back. I also agree with doing bathtime when they're tired, they seem to be more willing to just stand there and let you do your thing. Galahad doesn't really fight the bath, but cleaning his face and combing him out are things he doesn't like. I just try to hold him snuggled against me for the face cleaning and talk to him very soothingly. Definitely try wrapping Miley in a towel to hold her more securely. The comb out though, nothing makes it any better for Galahad. He whines and yips and bites at the comb, even though I'm very, very gentle. After I finish, I he rubs himself all over the carpet mussing his fur back up, staring at me defiantly the whole time, lol.

| After our potty in the morning, I lay a pillow across my lap on the sofa and that is where we do our grooming routine. I wash their little faces, comb/brush them out and do their topknots. I hold their heads and wipe their eye gunk (I use either a baby piece of a baby wipe or a moistened baby towel) and use a small comb to comb it out. I usually give them a small piece of a treat afterwards as well. I had gotten a grooming video and the woman used some phrases for certain things so I started also. I say "head" and Maggie knows that is when I will do her top knot. I will say "wash your face" and they know it's time to do their eyes. Then I say something like brush your teeth and they know that I am going to look in their mouths--they don't particularly like it but at least they know. lol. Maybe try using your finger at first for the motion of brushing teeth just to get Miley used to the sensation, then add a toothpaste, the the brush. I just got a child's tooth brush from Dollar Tree. It is small and soft. Good luck.
