| Neutering: How old was your Yorkie? Hi! How old was your yorkie when he got the big snip-a-roo? My breeder suggested 6 months as well as a couple of books, but my vet said there is no rush. Her reasoning was it would give him a chance to get bigger / more mature for the surgery and hopefully his undecended family jewel with drop by then. She said we can easily wait until he's a year old or so. Now I'm not sure what to do. What have been your experiences? |

| It definitely does! Males who are unaltered tend to mark (lift their leg), wander more searching for a female in heat, hump more, be a bit more rambunctious. If you do not neuter young enough then those behaviors already learned such as marking may be engraved forever. I would definitely recommend netering before at least 8 mo. of age but that's just my opinion. I say do your research and find out the benefits/cons. IMO, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

| Rily was 4.5 months. He has never lifted his leg and his humping is almost non-existent now.

| Personally I feel that it is not wise to get them neutered at a very young age. This is an interesting article that explains why. http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongT...uterInDogs.pdf |

| Our vet has 3 yorkies of her own and treats a lot of yorkies in her practice and from the first day we took Cooper to her she told me to get it done at 6 mos, dont wait longer.....in her words, not mine they are very sexual dogs and will mark everything/hump etc if you wait to long. Even though we were so nervous he did just find and never missed a beat!

| Zeke was slightly over a year. He still had one testicle that did not drop so he had two incisions, but he did great. He never did mark much, but now not at all. He did hump and still does so every once in a while but only on his towel. |
