I wish you luck with him, but I am truely frightened for both of you. We have read so much heart ache on here over those tiny babies. The most unselfish thing you could do for that baby is to ask the breeder to keep her until she is at least 16 weeks and hopefully a pound. | |

| I hope all goes well with your new baby. Those little ones are so fragile, so take extra special care with her. Congratulations and welcome to YorkieTalk!

| congratulations on your new baby. Hopefully you don't plan to bring her home until she is at least two pounds, well hopefully your breeder would not let her go at 8 OZ.... if that is what she weighs now

| Wow, you're new baby is definitely a tiny one! My Rio was 16 weeks when i brought her home and she was 1.7 pounds. At 8 months, she is now 2.7 pounds and I don't think she'll be getting much bigger. Having a tiny Yorkie takes a LOT of care, and you cannot leave them at home alone all day. I took off work for 2 weeks when I first got her, and now she is baby sat every day at my brother and sister-in-law's house when I am at work. She is very well socialized because she's always around people. You'll need to feed her often, at least 4 times a day, or free feed the entire day. You'll need to be sure to give honey/karo syrup/nutrical (choose one) before bedtime to prevent hypoglycemia. I also give Rio yogurt before bedtime to keep her tummy acids from making her vomit in the morning. I also give her yogurt first thing in the morning, again so her tummy won't be empty. I carry a small syringe of karo syrup in case I ever feel her blood sugar is low while we're out shopping or running around. You'll need to learn to "shuffle" around your house so you don't accidentally step on her. Tiny ones also have tiny bladders, so they can't hold their pee as long as bigger Yorkies. Rio can hold it about 5 hours if she had to, but she tends to pee every 3 hours. She is fully potty trained to go outside, so I'm very lucky. Having a tiny Yorkie is a lot of work but I wouldn't trade her for the world. She's big love in a small package! |

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your soon-to-be new addition. Please don't think badly of anyone here for the advice they are giving you regarding being cautious with your new little one. Everyone is just trying to help you out by giving you as much info as possible. (IMO, too much info is better than not enough.) Educating one's self on the breed FIRST is a great way to prepare for bringing one into your home, but there is so much to learn that vital info can be overlooked. (Like the taboo associated with the term "teacup"--such a big deal that it's kind of hard to overlook. ) Try to remember that most of the members here have been around Yorkies for quite a while and are more accustomed to the problems that can arise with them, expecially little ones. Many of the members here have seen and experienced their fair share of heartache with these little guys. No one is second guessing your ability to handle your new little one, just trying to give you some helpful pointers that many first time Yorkie owners are unaware of. Best of luck! Can't wait to see pics of your new furball. |
