Sydney was doing great for a few weeks, but recently she has regressed. She wants to poop on the carpeting. She'll be 5 months this week, so she's still very young. Because she was going to her wee wee pads every time on her own, we got a bit careless in watching her. She's now being put in the crate again if we can't watch her. She always goes to her crate when we're not home. She does hold it all night. I'm not sure what changed, but we'll keep working on it.

oh no- not too old- we didn't teach layla until she was 2- the way our stairs are- she could be down there but we coudln't see her.

I hung it right at nose length- even if she plays with it- as SOON as you hear it- tell her good girl and take her outside- This is the only way she will put two and two together. Once you take her out- use whatever you say to her to get her to potty (we say hurry up) if she goes- huge party- if not- that's ok too. she understood that ringing the bell got her outside- and once there- your expectation was that she pee/poop.

Sorry for stepping in here, but we trained Gracie on a bell when she was 8-9 months old. Really out of frustration when she was doing well and then regressed and I thought she'd never be trained!

I had seen the bells for sale but I figured she'd never use it. So, I took a bell (I have a small collection) and tied it to a wide ribbon and tied it to the door knob. Just high enough for her nose to reach. She immediately went over and "nosed" it and it rang. We immediately jumped up and said, "You need to go potty? Good girl" and hustled her outside. We did that consistently every time she rang the bell. It only took a couple of days before she "got it".

We now have a bell on our bedroom door (she sleeps with us now that she's 100% trained!) that she rings in the morning. That's when we roll out of bed!

Now, she will sometimes ring it just to get our attention (we know because we just had her out recently) or because she's bored and just wants to go out and check out the neigborhood. But when she really needs to go, she will stand by the bell and continue to ring it until we come take her out.

Nope. I would say 99% though. He's the kind of dog... if he is barking or standing at the door for too long unnoticed, he'll be like "screw you" and go into the living room. So technically, most of his accidents are my fault because I didn't see him at the door or didn't hear his barking. If I was on top of him totally 24/7, no accidents would happen. But basically, it's about 1-2 accidents per month, and it's generally because of rain or my fault. I take almost all the blame.

Sweet Pea is almost 10 months old and i spent so much time potty training her, i don't work anymore so i was here 24/7 when she was a puppy, I put her in the closed off tiled dining room with pee pads all over and the treats/praise when she "got it right"

So i thought she was potty trained, nope....just the other day she looked at me while in the hallway squatted and peed and walked away

I guess she showed me who was boss around here....hahahaha

Both of my furbutts are 99.9% potty trained. They use pads and sometimes walk off the pad when they are pooping, so thats where the .01% comes in LoL They have their own room in my house ( they are spoiled ) and thats where I have 4 pads that make a square in their room , thats there potty area. They could be all the way across the house and if the urge hits them, they will go to their room to potty : ) I am a very lucky momma

magic is 100% housebroke and only goes outside. he is a very good boy although he gave me a run for my money in the beginning. took me 2 months of watching him just about every second and taking him out even in the middle of the nite a few times each nite. i crate trained and he would cry in the middle of the nite if he had to go. also very good where ever we go. we travel a little and he has never gone in a motel room or any house we ever rented on vacation or any friends or relatives. my husband and i both work (did not work when i got him) and we never worry that he will do something when we leave. he is just to good of a boy. He has had run of the house since he was 6 months old. all the training and watching for the first few months really pays off in the end because you will have a good dog for life.

98%

I trained him to use pee pads. Funny though - He is 100 % on the pad the main floor but upstairs he still gets tempted to go somewhere else. Not sure if it's because he got more treats on the main floor than upstairs, or my praises are not as enthusiastic (because I'm half asleep). So we are still working on it.

But I have a another problem. He will not go potty outside!!! I've tried taking the pad outside. I've tried walking him with another dog so that he learns from them...and nothing! We will go for a long walk and he will hold it until he gets home.

Bell ringing - very cool!!

We got our Hannaha ans Cutie as untrained adults. I don't think they'll ever get it! and my Charlie...I think he's a lost cause too. I've tried everything!! They have to stay in the family room where it is tiled. I would love to have them have run of the house but there's just no way!

Funny you should ask this! I just posted a thread about fiona, fiona is completely house trained, all up until i moved in with my boyfriend, she has been having little poopie accidents here and there, and i can tell he is getting annoyed with it, so i'm trying to do different things! Fiona goes on command, so this is all new and annoying to me!

About 99.5%. We have an accident about every couple of weeks. There's alot of times that there's pee on the side of the potty pad holder but I've watched her and she just tends to hang her little bottom off the side of the holder. So I don't count those against her.
