I do have another question though.... I’m not understanding this crate thing. I have read that you have to get the puppy use to the crate and it should be little by little over time. So, first letting him be outside the crate then throwing a treat in there and waiting for him to go in and get it and then letting him stay in there with the door open then moving on to having him in there with the door closed. But I thought the puppy would use the crate at night while he’s sleeping. Where/how should he sleep in the meantime while I am teaching him that the crate is his “den”? I don’t want to start him sleeping with me (no matter how tempting it may be because I don’t want to roll over on the little guy). I want him next to the bed though so I can hear him. | |

![]() Okay, ALL of the names were so great! I had a hard time deciding. I mulled it over and over again. ![]() I have chosen........ Baxter Now I am not sure if I want it spelled Baxter or Baxster... Baxter looks better in print I think ![]() When I fill out the paperwork for the registration, do I need to have a last name? (seems like a silly question but I figured I would ask ![]()

![]() Baxter is GREAT! How cute! You won't roll over on him. It will be like sleeping with a baby, and I mean seriously, he'll be close to you. At first you'll be nervous but eventually yo'll adjust...LOL The crate training thing is not for me. I know some people swear by it, but I don't like the idea of cages. Especially when sometimes puppies came from a caged life. But I would think you can use it at night and keep it next to your bed to make him feel secure. I would use it during the day (if you work) but I'd put it in an area so he can come out to eat and play (closed off with a baby gate and place a potty pad in a corner) I would place the potty pad in a dog litter box to keep it in place and for when he starts lifting his leg. I'd also get the size box that allows the pad to lay flat and that gives him more room. I bought a play pen (I like the open top) and will use it when I get my baby for times that I need to confine her in the house, and when I travel. I am blessed I will be home with her everyday, so I intend to seriously watch her for potty training. I also will be using a potty box with pad, because there are days when I know I won't want to go outside right away (storms and cold weather) so she will have the best of both, indoor potty and outside. For sleeping I know we will have the play pen in our room in the beginning, but I guarantee she will be in the bed with us. He already knows this and that is that! She will be spoiled, loved and nurtured, in a very good way. She will also attend obedient school, because I plan to pack her with me at every possible place I can bring or sneak her in too. She will be my real road dog...LOL

![]() Cerise, thank you for the tips. That is what I was thinking for at work. I have a thick wooden table behind my desk that I want to put a baby gate up to so that he can see me whenever he wants to and behind the gate I will put a crate with comfort stuff in it and was thinking about keeping it open so he could come out to potty (putting his food and water outside the crate). The space is about 6 feet long, 18 inches deep and 26 inches tall. ![]() I'm attaching a new picture!!!!

![]() BE STILL MY HEART!!! ![]() He is to cute for words! You get to have him at work?! You go girl!!! That is fantastic, and yes you will need two of almost eveything (like the crate, bowls and stuff) but I would pack a little tote bag just for him to take to work for his food, toys, extra sweater, leash and stuff. That way he'd see it and know it's time to go to work...LOL
