You are the only one I can trust with them...probably because you are the only one that knows how much they mean to me...and you feel the same with p. They aren't just "dogs".

| I am so sorry to hear about you're baby being so sick. I pray your baby gets 100% to good health soon, how heart breaking to see them sick. I too was uninformed about Mills, I didn't quite get the picture or it didn't sink in maybe. I too bought my Maltese 19 years ago from a Pet Store and never had a health issue and she is the LOVE of my Life still even though she is waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge. My second Maltese is from a private party through a friend as I wanted to get a companion for my Tea'la, sadly my second had/has health issues inherited from her momma, which of course I didn't know about at the time and I didn't ask. Just last year my Mom wanted me to help her find her a Maltese baby as she just so loved my babies. I checked every single breeder in town and also on the internet, we were going to drive to Los Angeles for this precious little one. But decided to first check locally( we are cursed with that aweful sickness of "I WANT IT NOW"..LOL), I widdled the local choices down to 3 and yep, all 3 were in pet stores. Needless to say the first one she seen she bought and boy is she a pistol, again, this was only last year. I didn't have a real clue until I decided to change breeds as I couldn't bring myself to get another Maltese, I so didn't want to replace my precious Tea'la, so I actually was set on a Pom. But my groomer told me that I wouldn't be happy with a Pom as I was used to NON shedders, which I forgot about (silly me...LOL) and my dh is just nerotic about dog hair! So I decided to research Yorkies and stumbled upon this site and secretly read and read all I could, THAT is how I found out and Oklahoma is FILLED with Mills. I LOVE my babies and I do not regret buying them. I am the same way about being non confrontive. But I do stand on the side of right, maybe you should think about going in and talking to the pet store owner as you seemed as if you had a pretty good relationship with her and she did offer in the start to pay the Vet bills. If need be take someone for moral support (I would...lol) Give her the oppertunity to make it right, she very well just may do the right thing and pay, if not, then you can decide if you want to take if further. But I do know that if you don't say anything, then not only will she not have the option to make it right, but she wont have any reason to be more cautious about the Pups health she brings into her shop. And sadly, the next person might not be able to afford the vet bills. Of course, this is JMHO =) Please keep us up to date on you're babies health! Take Care & God Bless YOU!

| i feel bad for you OP. i knew not to go through a pet store, but that's just about all my knowledge was at that point. i got mine from a backyard breeder and thank the Lord above, so far we have no troubles with health. i'm praying we never do.... anyways i agree with lots of you on here, i know it's on the news and such, but it doesn't really phase a person until they either learn it for real or go through a bad experience with puppy mills or BYB. i even came on YT during the puppy buying process and was told that they were irresponsible and questionable breeders and it still didn't truly hit me. it wasn't until i had Sadie a few months and watched Ceasar Milan's puppy mill episode that it finally hit me in the face...that very well could have been Sadie's mommy in those cages. i don't know, i never checked her breeder's house and her home...i was FOOLISH and just plain IGNORANT. there's a difference between ignorance and stupidity. i just didn't have a clue....now i get it. and i swear i'll never promote a BYB ever again... anyways to the OP, you didn't know any better, now you hopefully see that no matter how much you think you trust a pet store owner...you have to know the breeder, the location of the puppy's home, and a heck of a lot about their health history before purchasing a puppy. i would defin. go to this woman and beg for all the vet costs to be paid, if she refuses take her butt to court and sue her for misleading you to believe that the breeder was a good one and the pup would be healthy. you probably bought the pup with a health guarantee too, so due whoever wrote that guarantee up and sue the vet and the breeder...get em' all if you have to...and go out and tell every soul you know your story so they shut that place down!!! call ASPCA and get that pet store closed from selling pets... i hope it all works out for you hon. sorry you had to experience how bad BYB and puppy mills are by having a sick pup...i feel so darn lucky that hasn't happened to me yet, but it still could and i'll have to just take care of it if it does and learn my lesson the hard way. |

| wow for the first time i'm realizing that there are a lot of people just like me out there. we really honestly didn't know about puppy mills and how bad they were. even seeing them on Oprah we didn't think that was something that really happened in our own neighborhoods. and then we got on here, learned, and still were defensive because we just didn't really believe it...and we bought our dogs to "save" them not realizing we were enabling. and then finally one day after loving our puppies for awhile, it just clicked that their mama and daddy were probably living in filth and only living to make babies and will die in a kennel...that hurts me deeply. it just didn't click and then one day it did...and now all the people who have had this experience are uniting because they figured it out with the help of this site and we're going to make a change for the better as the future of this country!!!! megansmomma....i hope you read this girl....your words aren't in vain...we're listening no matter how much you think we're not!!!! we're still reading and eventually it does start to sink in...don't stop preaching girl...and to the OP don't you ever stop telling this story...it will help someone someday stay away from this heartbreaking and bank breaking situation. |

Plus there are tons of things on tv but some of us when we hear puppy mills, we think of the dumps with crates on top of crates, that's not what people see when they go to a pet store and see these loveable puppies being cuddled by the employees and having our heart strings tugged on. That's what I learned HERE! So, yes some of us do come in pretty dumb about it but thank God we have patient nice people like you to point it out. Seriously, is it so horrible to post something without a ton of snarkiness in it? She didn't deserve being berated, she's obviously been around awhile and has learned. geesh. And btw, I'm not just picking on you, edvalaria, it's several people on the boards lately, it's just not needed no a support forum.

| "Knowledge is power." Now, if "Knowledge is power" then "With great power comes great responsibility," It is the "teacher's" job to teach and educate others. I ...like Brianna ( mommy of 3) had NO IDEA of puppy mills. I watched Tv, was on the internet, went to local pet stores. Does that make me a bad person? I also got Peanut from a local pet store.. if I knew what I knew now I would think twice... I found out about puppy mills was on YT. Then as soon as I was aware of them I started to see current news on Puppy Mills... It took me knowing to be aware. So if you have that knowledge than use it as power to educate other's that don't know, instead of "beating them down" You'll catch more bees with honey than vinegar! Maybe redvalaria since you seem to know so much more than other you should go out and be heard and try to TEACH others.

| I agree with Livingdust... I dont understand WHY you would make this statement... What are you trying to get going here?? Knowing all about puppy mills and hearing Brianna's ( mommyof3) story why would you say something like this? I think you have a reason for saying this. I dont think that is the kind of person you are... I should really hope not.
