Was sold a sick pup and now stuck with vet bills

I didn't know a thing about puppy mills until I came to this sight. In fact I almost walked out of a "reputable" petstore with a yorkie and would have had I not found this sight

Something else to consider here.
It is best to also completely avoid pet stores that sell Puppies etc. Because even if you are buying their sweaters, carriers and food, you are supporting a pet store who supports puppymills.

I don't mean to post or get nasty , but I don't like , lets say your approach to this thread. I am telling you and this coming from a person who was born and bred in New York(I am very street smart) that 4yrs ago I didn't know about puppy-mills or where these cute little babies came from, just knew I wanted one . After I joined a forum and was told the truth I actually cried. Then anger set in , then I blamed myself for not knowing. I was really defensive and would ignore a lot of posters. But secretly I was reading the forums on puppy-mills byb's and brokers and I GOT IT!
Once I knew I set myself straight and tried to educate anyone who would listen and if I stopped even one person from buying from a pet-store I felt like I had redeemed myself .
You say "more to the point , everyone acts all shocked and surprised", thats exactly how I was and felt.
Don't be like that, give people the benefit of the doubt, try to see the other side of not knowing . If you try to understand others with some compassion and not this well you should have known this or that attitude you will be a better person and people are more receptive to niceness than criticism .
I hope one day you do get it and post nicer about this subject . It's not that people have their head in a bubble it's that some time certain issues in life are not paid attention to and when you want that little adorable puppy , you don't research enough and your emotions get the best of you.

I got two from breeders and the other one from a pet store as well. I had no clue about puppy mills..Honestly though, I dont regret it completely because they are my life and all of my dogs have the best personalities...Especially Dalilah and lorelai (which both came from the pet stores). I was also ignorant of puppymills but when I went to pickup my first Bloodhound I soon figured it out. Problem was I bought her anyway cuz I couldn't leave her there. Three years later we had to have her put down as she became agressive with my 18 month old granddaughter.

I still have a bloodhound and my precious Yorkie. However, things were much different when I got these two. The best thing to do is educate yourself and hopefully eliminate the pain that comes along with buying a puppymill puppy. Good Luck!

You know puppymills and BYBers depend on 3 things for their puppy sales; 1. You are one of the unsuspecting public. 2. That lil puppy face will grab your heart (after all who can resist a puppy. 4. You'll feel sorry for that puppy and buy it anyway........not many of us wouldn't. That's why it's best not to visit these places.

You are so right, it kills me when I read about a person buying a dog from a breeder, and they describe horrendous conditions with urine and feces all over a filthy house, and yet says they buy the puppy to "save" it. It's best to get to know the breeder over the phone first.

I think the important thing is that the op is now here, and IS being educated about puppymills. She might not have known before , but she does Now. So, she too can lend her voice in all of our individual commitments to stop Puppymills and the violence and brutality that is a daily feature for those living in that hell. It is only by us continuing to foster this knowledge in others, that we can truly do away with all puppymills.

We moved into a real fixer upper, in the process of making it liveable. However, my dogs are groomed and , their bedding clean and a great clean yard for them to run around in.
