Housetraining. Need help housetraining our Yorkie. We acquirred a 1yr old female that was supposed to be housetrained 3 wks ago and she has had ALOT of "accidents" in the house. My 12yr old daughter takes her out about 20 - 30 min after she eats ( she's sniffing around) sometimes she will go and sometimes not.

My story didn't completle post. She peed on my bed today after we had taken her out twice with 90min. and she didn't go while outside. We've stayed out with her at least 10 - 15 min at a time. She will come in and go. I'm so frustrated.

Moving to a new home is very stressfujl. Just because she knew the rujles in her old home does not know that she knows them in her new home. The good news is, that at a year old, she should be easier to train than a puppy. I would try leashing her to my belt for a few days, and not let her run free in the house.

Thanks JeanieK. I'll try that. My daughter took her out right after that to let her know that she needs to go OUTSIDE. She's soaked because it's rainning here so now she's getting a bath. We have a 6yr. old female Golden Retriever and she wasn't this difficult to train. We've had her since she was 6 1/2 wks.

Yorkies can be more difficult than a large breed. And mine refuse to go out in the rain, I provide pee pads on rainy days. An umbrella would help too.

We just moved to a new house and we are having to start from square one with potty training it feels. They are finally catching on and we are getting them to potty outside. But the last two days have been very rainy and Lola is basically refusing to go out unless I am right there on the grass getting soaked too lol She goes much faster, within 2 mins each time just to get out of the rain. She is a year this month.

Make sure your Yorkie doesn't have free run of the house until she is house trained. Also, keep her to a schedule. Feed her in the morning at the same time with water, and the same throughout the day. This way you can predict when she will have to go potty. Keep her in a crate (cage) or in a small enclosed area with toys when you can't watch her. To play with her, keep her contained in the kitchen and then put her back in the smaller area when playtime is over. Good luck.

| I have read in a few places that Yorkies are the hardest breed (or one of the) to potty train. When I was having issues getting Joey to quit pooping in the house, someone on here told me that he's probably so distracted outside playing that he forgets to poop, then when he gets back inside, he probably remembered a little too late to let me know. After taking him out twice for a week or two, he got it, and he always poops in the morning now. I think the stress of being in a new home with new people is probably making a difference too. I would say to just be patient for the next couple weeks to see if she settles down and quits peeing in the house. Good luck to you!

| Callie seemed to get the pooping outside thing but the peeing was a different story and she learned to scratch the back door when she wanted to go out but that was just to play and sometimes pee so we decided to get a doggie door and she had two accidents in the house after we had gotten that and that was it the two accidents she did have where right in front of the doggie door so I told her no that was bad (not yelling and I did not hit her) and then put her out the doggy door and locked for two minutes so she had to stay out and she got it after doing that two times. Everyone at my house loves the doggie door but she knew the word pee pee because before the door we would go out with her everytime and tell her to go pee pee and when she did we would say good pee pee and treat her so now right before we leave or right before bed I say Callie go pee pee and point to the door and she runs out and pee pees while I stand at the door and watch to make sure and I still tell her how good she is. Now after she goes pee pee at night she will go wait at my bedroom door for me to come back and put her nightie on and tuck her in but goodness if I'm not fast enough getting back there she will come find me and hit me with her nose and run back to my door as if saying mommy come on its bed time lol. One other thing was we used to have little rugs in the kitchen in front of the stove, dishwasher, oven, and fridge and she tought those where pee pads (we kept one in front of the door) and would pee on them so we had to pick all of them up. I wish you the best of luck with your training.

Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions and replies. I will definitely try them. I was just so frustrated yesterday. Bella is trying to "make up" for her mistake. It's so cute.... It's been a long time since I've had a small dag. Our Golden is small for the breed ( only 50Lbs. she was the runt of her litter) but I'm just used to bigger dogs.
